How hard is this really? I think this is why I understand almost anything more than I do art. It's way too subjective. Any opinion I have really doesn't matter (and will quickly be marginalized or shouted down) so let's stick to the quick facts. Since, go figure, the Escapist has WAY too many people who can tell me EXACTLY what art is when no one can really tell me exactly what art is.

Without which of the two choices would the other not exist? To my mind, people picking something over the very agency that is the reason for it's being is irrational. Then again to my mind? A lot of art? Completely irrational. Luckily for me, a lot of it is totally avoidable. Life? Again luckily for me, not so much so.

Art is an imitation of life. wether it be realistic or exaggerated, art is trying to be like life.

therefore Life is more beautiful then art.

besides without life then art wouldn't exist.

Depends on the persons opinion. Me? i'd say both are equally beautiful and ugly.

I voted art. Art usually has more redeeming qualities than the people that created it.

Life is as ugly as a horse's arse.

Hmm.

I guess art takes life and shares it. It takes a moment of a persons life and allows another to see it. Life is all the more precious, however, because it is mostly unique and fleeting. There are some things that cannot be conveyed through art, simply because no other person could appreciate them if they were shared.

Both have value, and both are equally beautiful.
To be dramatic: I have never read something that I agree with as much as this post. These are my precise thoughts and I probably would have written it almost the same way as you did. Its kind of scary infact, but still kudos man.

I think life, probably. But your sister makes an excellent point. For 12 that's impressive.
I'll say. It's kinda scary mostly because she's maturing alot faster than I did and I'm hoping to keep at least the scientific knowledge edge on her. XD

Art comes from life, does it not? At least I think it should. So, that's a hard choice. At the same time, art is not derivative, lest thought should be thought derivative. Art should be a snapshot and at the same time much more than that. Art evolves from a snapshot a happenchance moment, it takes the human mind to revolve around this moment and make more of it, a story, a painting, Etc. It's humanities ability to make our mundane existence more, so for that I'll give art the vote.
