Poll: Art or not?

British artist Tracey Emin created the 'artwork' called 'My bed', which is literally no more than her bed with accompanying stains and various items... And it sold for £150,000!
I'm well aware that art/modern art means that just about anything can be considered art nowadays, providing you have the correct reputation to start with.
But what do we here at the escapist think?

Subjective, and all that. Art crowd is just a bunch of snobs with over-inflated self importance, in my experience (and I've been around plenty art people) and while claiming that something is or isn't art for various dubious reasons might be a good way to waste some time, why bother?

If I take a shit and it means something to me, it's fucking art. Get over it.

A jizz covered bed (if I read that wiki correctly) is not art. On the other hand I'm probably outdated.

I think it's pretty neat. Of course, it's an artist's bed, so it's obviously art. It also helps that the artist was female, which makes the scene "real" rather than "gross." Regardless, I think it's a fairly compelling expression of humanity-- there is plenty in the picture that forces the viewer to extrapolate beyond what is presented and examine the overarching context of the artist's life.

Tracy Emin is annoying and thinks she is being 'edgy' when all she is doing is being pretentious. If that was 'My Bed' I wouldn't show it to people, I would wash my damn sheets!

Hmm in a way I can see how it could be seen as art but you have to get creative with thinking about this but it should not be seen as how a work from Leonardo Da Vinci or Van Gogh

Sooo I have been making art every morning, whats next leave the toilet seat up and call it "my toilet".

That is not art, its just a picture, but art like music is 100% subjective.

It's art, we looked over this in my advanced art class back in high school. Yes, while the average person might go "eww..." in all actuality, this is tame to some of the things that I've seen while in my art classes.

It is subjective, but art is an extension of oneself, which is why sometimes you just turn your head at something and go "huh?" Maybe she saw something in this bed that no one else could.

When it comes to modern art I think of the tale of the "Emperor's New Clothes" where every one coos and shouts praise until one little voice all the way at the back goes "it's crap".
