So, I'm fairly new to the AC saga, despite owning all the games. I started playing the first game, but my girlfriend fell in love with it, and so we decided to split it: she'd play Altair's story (including his segments in revelations) and I'll play Ezio, which means I still have to wait until she finishes the first game. We'll let the cat handle Desmond, since she's comatose a lot.

In the meantime, though, I wouldn't mind getting a general feel for the series in these forums. Which game did you like best? And for what reason? Was it gameplay? The story? Do tell. Like I said, I'm new to the series and eager to learn from the veterans.

I think AC 2 had the better story and character development as well as nicest locations.

Brotherhood had the best game mechanics.

I liked the first one the best, but I know plenty of people prefer the second over it. I think I'm just more of an Altair man than Ezio, especially after three games as Ezio and only the one as Altair.

Because the story pretty much sucked in all of them I like Revelaions the best. I liked the setting and it had the best gameplay. Although all games are fun. The enemies with guns were annoying though. But I do like AC2 a lot because you can just play and have fun without having to worry about the 100% synchronization bullshit.

Original was best for the setting and the plot. AC2 was best at feeling like a fully finished game (damn it was long). AC Brotherhood was the best for the economic system. AC Revelations was the best at looking slightly prettier than the rest.

I can't wait for the American revolution in AC 3, but I almost hope that they set a game (or at least part of it) in Ancient Rome. It'd be so cool to see Rome in all its splendour, and it would contrast really well with the derelict Rome we saw in Brotherhood.

I had to go with Brotherhood. While it was only set in one city, it was friggin Rome which is awesome.

I also liked the introduction of the brotherhood of assassins; it was cool having allies spring out of nowhere to take out targets for you. Plus, I think it did a good job of rounding out Ezio's arsenal without going overboard like Revelations (bombs & the hook... ugh).

I would've thought the most annoying enemies were those with grenades, at least the ones with guns, you can tell they fight primarily with guns.

OT:

AC - all about the story and the development (particularly of Malik al-Sayf's character), gameplay can get kind of repetitive, though it is the most challenging of the series.

ACII - best game of the four released IMO, though the gameplay was quite easy, but the story was awesome, the side missions weren't all dumb hack 'em slash 'em and the character development was pretty good too, even if Claudia just did not age a single day, seriously!

AC:B - built on the gameplay, but the story (which I was in it for) sucked the most out of the four. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't good, and I hate horseriding! The recruiting and team building thing was rather boring and bringing the assassin-lings to fights made your own skills & kit a tad redundant. And how homoerotic was that last fight?!

AC:R - better story than AC:B, the gameplay just got soooooooooooo convoluted though, and it was too short for my liking and wasn't particularly satisfying an end... and the boss fight was a fucking QTE... much rage at that.

Oddly enough, the thing I enjoy most about the games ACII onwards are the secret locations that you free run around. Most were quite fun and I replayed them a lot.
