Well, I'm a stable, stubborn, sarcastic bastard, so I'd probably be an earth bender. Can't say I mind being a stubborn, sarcastic bastard, and I can't say I'd mind being an earth bender.

Going by personality, probably earth. Resillience is kinda my thing. It's also my element according to chinese horoscopes, not that I believe in that stuff.

But, if given the choice I'd like water or air. Earthbending looks badass but in the show it seems other types of bending can do anything earthbenders can and more (like flying). Sure there's metalbending but it doesn't really seem to bring anything new to the table except that you won't be defenceless any more if you are in a metal construction.

Besides, I'm also a pretty diplomatic type of guy and adaptability is really just a form of resillience so I say wind and water are legit options too.

Fire leaves me lukewarm (lame pun is lame). Much like earthbending it looks badass and it's very destructive but it seems that's all it is. Even lightning is just more destruction. Wind and water can be just as destructive AND have uses beyond destruction.

If I were not limited to the choice, and could still be in canon I would be a metalbender all the way. Yay Metal! :D

However from the list given, I think I would choose Firebending.

Afaik, it's not 8 disciplines, it's 5, Bloodbending is an advanced form of Waterbending, like Metalbending is an advanced form of Earthbending and Lightningbending is an advanced form of Firebending, and weapons, if you count that as one.
In any case, I'd choose Lightningbending, since with proper control of it, you can control or absorb energy from technology(and let's face it, there's lots of technology around us) as well as even control people, by sending certain signals to different organs.

I'd have to go with water for a number of reasons -
- Bloodbending! Create your own zombie army, making your enemies cut down their own compatriots makes for great psychological warfare, they can also be used to get the chores done.
- A readily available resource, plenty of water around and if there isn't any handy pools just pull it out of the air or rip it out of plants, animals or even people. Failing that you can always just make some yourself (and I'm not talking about sweat).
- Turn water into weapons, create ice arrows, ice shrapnel grenades, slicing discs and even swords.
- Create a suit of ice armour (anyone who's tried scraping ice off their car can testify to it's effectiveness)
- Talking of cars, never have to pay for a car wash again!
- With some practice you could also create a microwave effect, exciting the water molecules which creates friction, produces heat and cooks the target (or explodes it if you over do it), pop popcorn or your enemies, the choice is yours.

The poll isn't working but I would probably be a water or fire bender. An online quiz I took a while ago said water bender though.

Also, the new Avatar is looking awesome.

For everyone that thinks you can metalbend just from picking earthbending, you realise Toph could only do it because she was blind...

honestly, i have always been torn between water and earth. air would be kinda cool but i feel i can think of many more uses for water/earth. i just dont know if i could handle either. lotta temptation to fuck shit up when you can control the very earth beneath your feet , and may have a minor in metalbending so buildings aren't safe either (since metal is just refined earth, all i need is some practice to mess with it, and a bit of creativity)

and there is a giant goddamn lake right next to where i live, as well as a fairly large river running through town. gotta love chicago.

anyway, i never saw the entire avatar series (never could quite consistently catch new episodes, and i missed a number of the smaller adventures because re-runs were always the same 5 episodes, and i didn't know about online TV sources until recently), but this one looks interesting. it seems to take place fairly far into the future from the last series (probably a good 50-100 years as they have cars and skyscrapers, instead of a select few steamships and whatever else the fire nation built). im interested to learn the back-story behind this.

aye, but now that she has done it, her knowledge has spread, and with some searching and serious effort, we could probably get some basic skills.

Personality wise? I think I'd probably be an airbender. A technique that emphasizes evasion and flowing movement actually lines up with a lot of my real world training in martial arts. That and I want a sky bison.
On the other hand, every time I saw Aang in the show all I could think of is manipulating the air to create a vacuum around your opponents. Imagine being able to choke an army...
hum. that's not very air mentality is it?

if you saw my review of TLA series you'll know i LOVED the original series but have a few doubts about Legend of Korra. from the vid it looks pretty sweet but they have sped that theme up WAY to much and have ruined it.

OT: given my personality i would be either a water bender or an air bender, both of which i would be more than happy with
That trailer itself is actually sped up quite a bit, which makes the music off too.

This is the normal speed one:

OT, waterbending ftw. Though I wouldn't mind earthbending M. Night Shyamalan into a very deep cave so he can never direct anything again.
it's not entirely his fault that the movie turned out like it did. i mean, the series hardly ever has any actual filler, and anything to be considered filler is mostly for character development. M. Night had to fit a 20 or so episode season into an hour and a half movie. i don't think any director could have saved that movie. besides, it's better as a cartoon anyway, we don't even need a good Avatar movie.

OT: i'd go for blood bender. not one that would control another's body, but to simply use blood outside of a body. say you fight a swordsman, and you get cut. now you can use your own blood as a weapon. if it ever came to it, i would use the blood in another's body to control them if it meant saving my own life, but only in defense. while i feel like i'd most likely be a water bender, as i am emotional, relaxed, and just sort of a go with the flow kind of person in general, i'm still stable enough to prevent the power from going to my head. i'd be closer to the swamp bender, but still have the knowledge of blood bending as a last resort.

i also can't wait for the new series. while, like it's been said before, i'm having trouble seeing how it can be as good as the previous series, i still think it's great that they are making a new series that isn't entirely based off the original, besides being the same universe and some descendents of main characters in the first one. i mean, they made this entirely new world with a great history for A:TLA, it'd be an insult to only use it to tell just one story. the potential that their universe holds is enormous for the amount of stories that could be told through it.

Water bending follows my personality to the 'T'. Overall, calming and flowing with change and the path of least resistance but powerful and turbulent when shook up.

I guess I might go with waterbending personaly, I rather like water so that would be I think the best choice dispite being a Leo or a Ox if you go by the Chinses Zodiac. Atleast with water or air you can do other things besides destroying stuff.

I wouldn't use bloodbending just because to me personaly it smacks of heresy and fire bending is just ruined because of that witch Azula and all her vile acts.

aye, but now that she has done it, her knowledge has spread, and with some searching and serious effort, we could probably get some basic skills.
But the point of her being able to do it was because her Earthbending style is completely different. Not saying it isn't possible, but someone would essentially have to re learn Earthbending from an entirely new perspective first AND THEN train to Metalbend. It seems reasonable that she wouldnt have had time to pass it on to anyone in her lifetime, unless she had children. That way she could teach them her way from a very young age. Even then it's not guarenteed that they would even be benders though.
