I want to see a group of Marines who aren't red neck pricks that show complete disrespect to and insult the military. Were In space which means we've probably hit world peace. So a nice varied group of marines blasting away those stupid cat people would rock, also throw In Lance Henrikson.

It also seems like that since the case is likely that no one knew what the colonist were doing to the Na'vi outside of Pandora (The reason for the main characters change of heart after switching sides) The Human empire would see a gigantic native population butchering their colonist for what appears to them no reason. It seems like the 2nd movie of this would be the earth empire coming to totally annihilate them with highly advanced futuristic technology. o_O
I was thinking the exact same thing after I saw it. "Yeah, that's great and all until some big military force rolls through with a couple hundred nukes. How's the planet gonna defend itself from the a-bomb?" Just because a private mining operation wouldn't need to nuke the place doesn't mean that they wouldn't do it when half their pmc forces got butchered.

Well i was going to be a massive troll but i decided i would like to keep my good rep here a little longer so instead ill just say... no, people please just... no ...

Edit you know what fuck it. Heres my message to any one who goes and see's the avatar re-release. After you get home, and your all snuggled up on your couch or bed, i am going to break into your house wearing stereoscopic 3d glasses and holding a dvd case of avatar which inside will contain both Dances with Wolves and The Smurfs movie. and after you shit your pants out of fear i will precead to blugen you several times while shouting "GREATEST MOVIE EVER!"

Seriously people Crtl C Crtl V story tied to a gimmick which so far hasn't impressed me or worked well, future generations are going to look back and be sad we payed big money for this.

It was like watching a bunch of dumb settlers get massacred by a shitload of Indians because they made the buffaloes stampede them to death. When the actual military came like in real life, they just picked up and left or got slaughtered.
Really? This is the analogy you want to use?

First, to put the cards on the table, a significant portion of my heritage is Cherokee. Many of the tribes resisted heroically. In some cases they even fought the invaders to a standstill in spite of a relative lack of supplies or personnel. In the Plains, the situation was all but unwinnable for the settlers until a systematic extermination of several primary food sources was conducted.

I'm quite aware of how things turned out in the end. There is a reason why I was not raised as part of a tribe but rather as a normal American citizen. But do not for a moment seek to glorify one of the most successful campaigns of genocide in recorded history.

Remember for a moment that the journey takes six years. The cost of sending a single vessel is likely astronomical. The only reason for the journey is because the most valuable substance in the history of anything exists there. Gold will cost but a few ten thousand USD or so for a kilogram. Platinum a bit more. The mcguffin in the movie was worth 20,000,000 USD per kilogram as it was prized for, as far as I've been able to discern, it's property of floating in a magnetic field. Cost and complexity of operation alone would buy time, especially if there were reasonable engineering alternatives to unobtanium. At a minimum, a response would take a decade as the movie takes place in the nearest neighboring star system. Since FTL travel doesn't exist in the Avatar universe, that means news of the tragedy would take around four years to arrive. Even if a military response was deemed necessary, it would take another six years to arrive. Unless the logistic problems were resolved, the response would not be significantly greater than what was there in an established base. In this case the maximum theoretical effort which would readily reduce the planet and its inhabitants to ash is likely significantly less than the maximum possible effort.

In the same vein as any insurgency, such a protracted ground war would almost certainly end in tears for the invader unless they opted for a genocidal approach. Given the resistance to such endeavors in the western world today, I'd presume there would be significant pressure to find an alternate route especially given that the diplomatic and strategic failure was a private sector matter. The company in question will almost certainly suffer enormously. Those marines almost certainly are owed death benefits. There would inevitably be an investigation. The trip to and from would have been for nothing.

Inevitably however, someone would try again. It is the way of the world after all.

You missing some choices on your poll there, I was rooting for Aang, and Zuko a few times of course...
I see what you did there. :D

For me, I want the Imperium of Man humans to win. Yeah they were painted like utter dicks but the frakking Na'vi just wouldn't bother talking to our people at all.

Well since the extended version of James Camerons Avatar comes out today I decided that since a few threads discussing Avatar covered all the basics, except one. Who did you want to win? I have seen a few threads about Avatar and appearantly some people wanted the humans to win. So which side did you want coming out on top and most importantly why?

I myself cannot really decide who's fault the whole thing was. The Na'vi were extreamly hostile, didn't want to negotiate, had a superiority complex (both sides did) and refused any sort of agreement where both sides could benifit. The humans were there for a fuel for space travel (unobtainium is that fuel for those who didn't know), but didn't respect the Na'vi's ways because in their minds it was tribal ritual bullshit, they tried many ways to negotiate with them (even making Na'vi clones as advocates), offered them some technology to assist them (refused) and their mining process was rather destructive to the planet.

I guess I'll side with humans for now, they wanted to negotiate, not start a war (some did but wouldn't start it). If there is something I left out which proves that they were comeplete bastards then please tell me.
Too slow!
You... Time to do my Captain Kirk impression, CHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNKOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! *raises fists into the air*
Thanks for being such a good sport. :)
