It's Irish to my knowledge. Interesting not many people on this site've heard of it, because IRL I know a "Declan" and a "Deklan" (one of whom's British). Notably, there's the comedy duo Ant & Dec but apart from that, I don't know of any other famous bearers.

Julius is by far my favorite out of those.
I've always been fond of Lachlan and Matt though.
Maybe because I've had good friends with those names but still.

I know it because there was an Irish saint named Declan, and while my family's Scottish in origin, there are a lot of Irish around the area I live. There are a couple Declans in the area, though far more Patricks named after that saint. Actually, given I only know a couple. There are probably more Patricks named after the Spongebob character.
