True, there is backtracking in BG2, but each individual dungeon is self contained and shorter. Once that dungeon finishes it's an accomplishment, you go looking for another one or can end your session for the day. In DA:O, once you're done with one level of a dungeon, there's no sense of accomplishment because eventually you're trained to expect 3-4 more before you accomplish anything resembling a goal, you either press on or you end your session not feeling as if you've accomplished anything.Amaror said:I tried Baldurs Gate 2 myself after enjoying dragon age so much, but i couldn't really get myself to finish even the first dungeon. You fight yourself through one half of the entire dungeon, just to find something that you need at the end of the OTHER HALF of the dungeon. I don't know really why i didn't picked it up again and played some more. I really don't have a problem with graphics, i play the original xcom pretty often. Maybe i will try it again sometime.Gennadios said:I'm not trying to make DA:O look worse than it is, the mechanics were sound and the story standard Bioware fare before it faceplanted, but most of it's longevity is based off of nostalgia, and if that's what you're after, just go to the source.
You wrote that you hadn't finished BG2, It took me a year to finish DA:O, eventually I just burned out and stopped caring, it was months before I picked the game up again to finish. Different preferences, I suppose.
