"College student Luke Angel has been banned from visiting the United States for life after he drunkenly emailed President Barack Obama. Angel had just watched a TV program about 9/11 and decided it would be a good idea to send Obama an abusive email. Turns out calling the U.S. president a 'pr**k' is not the best way to make friends in the FBI.

Sky News reports that the FBI intercepted the message and notified British police, who in turn contacted the local police force in the youth's town of Silsoe, Bedfordshire. A Bedfordshire Police spokesman told Sky: "The individual sent an email to the White House full of abusive and threatening language.

"We were informed by the Metropolitan Police and went to see him. He said, 'Oh dear, it was me'."" -- toms hardware, link at bottom of post.

dunno if this article was already featured here but its worth taking a look at, i did a search for previous posts but to no avail.

I don't think that it's at all fair, but I do find it hilarious that someone was basically permabanned from America for abusive language.

Banned for calling him a prick? No.

get back to me when he threatens to kill the President, and I'll take longer to answer.

What happened to free speech? I believe we should have the right to call world leaders what we like.
As I understand it there were vague threats. Threats are not covered under freedom of speech. Secondly, he's not a US citizen.

exactly right, freedom of speech isnt something America assumes others have a right to only its own citizens.

Just goes to show how tyrannical the US Government gets when dealing with people not protected by their constitution, eh? Guys an idiot but that's pretty darn harsh.

Jeez, calm down, Obama. No need to start banning everyone...
Seriously, though, he shouldn't have been banned for calling him a prick. If Obama has a public email adress, he's gotta expect that not everyone will be emailing him just to say they think he's doing well. Plenty of people out there don't like him, he should accept that.

Yes we do. We have more free speech than anyone really. But, America has no free speech. What more can you want from a country?

OT: America, perma-banning since 2010. They can't ban him from walking on the Earth. People shouldn't have that power, ever. Native American Indians had the right idea; man cannot own land.

You don't think that maybe President Obama's in-box is inspected and cleared by some folks before he gets it?

Here's an idea, if you ever plan on visiting the US, maybe you shouldn't send emails insulting and threatening the leader of said country.

wow, now that you mention it like that, that's horrible

horrible horrible horrible

wow, the government can't punish people for saying anything, even to the president (heck ESPECIALLY to the president). You should be able to say whatever you want to the president without any fear of reprisal from the government.. might get a punch in the mouth from a "patriot", but the government should have no jurisdiction over speech. Anyone's speech. Foreigner wants to say "Death to america?" or "fuck you obama" for something Obama literally could not possibly have had anything to do with? Go right ahead. Speech should be free to everyone in the whole world

People should learn what parts of speech are actually protected under "free speech" before making criticisms about it.

Vulgarities, slander and threats are not protected.

I think calling someone names IS covered under freedom of speech. OR he needs to prove in a court of law that Obama IS a prick. I'd love to see that.
