It is a good game but with regards to being overrated...yes. The gameplay, storyline ect ect was good but nothing ground breaking or blew my mind. Worth a play for sure though.

I think it is a great game. The voice acting is very well done (Batman was pretty weak but at least its the actor from the cartoon), story is fantastic and its scope is near perfect. They could have set it in Gotham city but leaving us trapped on an island worked very well.

Although, I understand what you say about the button mashing when pulling grates off walls etc. The point you make about the titan enemies which act like Bane is (IMO) wrong. The enemies are meant to act like that because they have been injected with the titan syrum which turns Bane into a massive brute, it is a key point in the story.

The atmosphere is also very well done and the Scarecrow sections are great.

All in all its just a very good game that deserves the praise that it gets.

That's what I was getting at. I understand it's part of the storyline, but there was nothing different between Bane, and the Bane-clones. They could have atleast mixed it up a bit. Have them act different atleast.

You can still be moderated with offensive posts in spoiler tags.
And why is that? I actually had the decency to offer a choice as to whether he wanted to see the insult or not. The insult is not just thrown in his face.

Still, if I am put on probation/suspended or what have you, it was totally worth it. The stupidity that was stated was just... stupid.

The problem with making them act differently removes the connection to Bane and therefore wouldn't make much sense but I understand what your getting at.

It's just an opinion. It can't be stupid. This forum needs that to be stickied somewhere.

And what if I think the same of your view on Arkham Aslyum? Does that mean I get to throw expletives at you too?

They could have just mentioned that somewhere instead. They don't have to be EXACTLY the same. There's no difference at all. They even move the same. Subtle things like, moving differently, or acting different to be hit, that'd be fine. But they're just copies. It's like repeating the Bane scene over, and over, and over again...

Well, no one's been saying it's perfect. What they're saying is that it's massively good fun, which you admit yourself. This just highlights the problem with quantifying games with scores. What gives a game points? What loses it points? How much does each individual flaw cost it? The list goes on. Sometimes, games are just good or bad for reasons which are hard to put into a numerical score. Call it the X Factor, or 'soul'. Arkham Asylum is a game which I believe has 'soul', much like Brutal Legend, it is flawed but the obvious care afforded to it by the designers shines through and just makes everything that little bit more fun.

Hm, that ended up a bit more hippie than I wanted it to.

I think it got such good reviews was because it wasn't overly hyped and the general populace wern't expecting it to be what it was.
Also because it's fucking amazing!
Exactly... It was extremely easy for this game to suck. After the PR fiasco and all that stuff, I was half expecting the game to suck. Much to my surprise, the game proved to be pretty cool (not perfect, but really, really good).

I can see that they sorta re-skinned Bane and used them as titans but I can't see where they would have put the connection between Bane and the titans in the story.

I enjoyed the game, but thought that many of the boss fights were lame, and I absolutely hated the AI setups. Yes, they finally made a game where it really FEELS like you're Batman... but does that have to be shoved down our throats by throwing out all believability?

The clincher for me is when three guards with guns are staring down a hallway, expecting Batman to show up. You can simply go up to all 3 of them and choke them out silently, and while you're doing this one at a time, the other guys will not even TURN THEIR HEADS to see what's going on right next to them... they don't even clue in to the fact that their buddy has stopped talking to them.

Also, who puts gargoyle statues indoors? It's like they put in a bunch of things specifically so that you can do something cool with them, regardless of whether they would realistically be there or not.

The problem isn't that the titan henchmen act like Bane, the problem is that Bane acts like the titan henchmen.

Bane is supposed to be intelligent, almost as intelligent as Batman, he's not a mindless ape like he is in this game.

It's the other way around. It was underrated before it launched, no one expected it would be this good. So yes, it deserves its place among the best games of 2009.

I agree that the second game is an improvement on the first by a whole load, but the boring combat system is unbearable. Making such a big part of the game unbearable is fucked up beyond belief.

I've only played the demo, so I can't comment on the longevity, but from the brief sections I've played it seems like a very good game. The combat system is incredibly simplified, but makes up for it by looking badass as hell.

The little section I played definitely made me feel like The Goddamn Batman, and what more could one realistically ask?
