Me and my family was watching Iron Man 2, and we got into a very heated argument about which superhero is better. My argument was that Batman had better reason for being a superhero, and had Alfred. My dad's argument on why Iron Man is better was the only fact that he had the suit. In my opinion, wealth and pure strength is not a way to determine which superhero is better. So I ask you guys.
Who is the better superhero? Batman or Ironman?

Batman, and yes, I base my entire argument that it has Alfred.

I don't think the Escapist looks kindly on versus threads, but since you're new you probably didn't know. So, welcome to The Escapist.

And on topic, Batman just because he's the god damn Batman. No other reasons necessary.

The classic argument of style vs substance.

Ironman and Tony Stark have infinitely more style, Batman simply has more substance.

Batman wins for me in that argument every time, because I will more often than not choose substance over style.

If you want to make it a who would win in a fight, its really either ones game. The most likely choice is batman would avoid Ironmans power, skills and technique, but as Bane proved, Batman CAN be (somewhat) defeated. It just takes the combination of properly applied power with extensive cunning. Basically to truly beat batman, you have to beat him at his own game.

Both of them are better than Superman. You do know that Batman is super rich, too, right? He may not have the strength of Iron Man's suit, but he is very strong as well.

I honestly can't decide who's better.

For who I believe is a better hero, I would say Batman because he is better illustrated as a heroic character. There is more story and motivation for Batman to do the things he does. Ironman, while a hero, is more of a suit of robotic armor and doesn't have as much character or motivation other than flying around and blowing stuff up. How I view it, Batman is a symbol of justice (hero), Ironman is a suit (power).

If you were to ask which hero would win in a fight however, I would have to go with Ironman because he's practically invincible.

I sometimes like Batman but, as a character, he's just too... stuck in a loop. He fights the badguy, throws him in jail, bad guy gets out, repeat. Maybe it's the same for Iron Man, but I don't really know much about him so...

... and now I feel like a huge nerd.

Batman. Not only could he totally outsmart Stark, he is more in control and less of a media-whore. Batman did it right because only the cleverest villains are going to figure out who he is. Everyone knows who Ironman is.

Oh and Alfred. Alfred kicks ass.

Now while I do feel that Ironman is underrated and Batman is overrated, Batman is the overall better character.

As for who would win in a fight? ...it'd never end. Both would constantly be one-upping each other, a constant battle of wits and escalating weaponry .

Batman's super power is being rich.
Ironman's super power is being richer than Batman.
It logically follows that Ironman wins.
QED.

Honestly... Ironman. for several Valid reasons. firstly, while i shall wholeheartedly admit i have myself suffered similar losses/experiences as batman in my lifetime, and have subsequently at least contemplated going vigilante on the pricks who have YET to pay for it, i at least did not. secondly, for those of you basing your reasons for Not Ironman on the movies, you have obviously never seen a comic or done any research, i am not saying that applies to all of you, certainly not, i am merely stating that while yes, while tony stark is somewhat more... publicized, is that not a good thing? Batman is all good as a symbol in his own way, and tony stark as ironman is in his one symbolizes the mysterious vigilante avenger of the oppressed, and one symbolizes the philanthropist doing what he knows is right with what he has- with how things are, they are both Bound, in essence, to how they are portrayed and viewed- Tony Stark could not truly expect to hide who he is, and Bruce Wayne is simply a man in a suit and cape with easily concealed gadgets. my vote, however, is based on my own personal preference, not any semblance of merit or status, or even iconic symbolism of either- they are both examples of diametrically opposed sides of the same heroic coin- my decision is based on the fact that capes get you sucked into jet turbines and suits let you outfly the engines and dont- also, at least tony stark isnt all angsty... i like my 'heroes' without a side of angst, tyvm

You've all forgotten one very simple thing. Take away all the money, all the equipment, everything else. What doe Tony Stark have? A bad ticker. What does Bruce Wayne have? He's still fucking Batman. With or without the suit, Batman is Batman to his very core. It's something fundamental to his being that he cannot change, for better or worse.

Who would win in a fight? Probably Ironman. He has lasers and rockets and a full suit of flying armour.

But the better Hero would be Batman, in my humble opinion. He worked hard for his course, while Ironman stumbled into power. He also has a much higher amount of conflict to deal with, both psychological and physical. And as the person above me said, without Tech involvement, Batman would take down Ironman every time. He just has more wits, physical ability and endurance.

Also Ironman's suit is gay. That's not an insult, that's just some random canon for your viewing pleasure.

I'd have to go with Ironman.

I dig the whole 'founding member of the Avengers' - which I think is a better group than most of the 'core' JL stories.
