Its been a few weeks since Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 came out now, and if you're among the solid fanbase for either you'll most likely have bought one or both of them by now.
Leading up to Battlefield 3's release, EA was hammering the line of how much better it was going to be than the next CoD instalment, and especially among the PC crowd (which here on the Escapist is disproportionately numerous) sympathies lay with Dice's game rather than with Infinity Ward's efforts.
After the release of Battlefield 3, however, it became clear that it had fallen short of the mark that EA expected of it in terms of sales, whilst the first reviews for Modern Warfare 3 were coming in were far more positive than anyone had been expecting from a franchise that appeared to be running out of steam.

In the lead up to release, I had been adamant that Battlefield 3 would far be the superior game, and yet upon release it seemed to me to lacklustre; buggy, glitchy, limited. A competent effort, but nothing brilliant, especially in terms of the campaign. Modern Warfare 3 on the other hand looked extremely bland in the trailers and gameplay footage, however when I actually came to play it I had to concede that it was, indeed, a much better game than Battlefield 3: smoother and more cinematic with better gunplay.
