I love the Battlefield games and have brought and played them all. I was looking forwards to BF3 until I saw that it required Origin to be installed and what the Origin Terms of service were. So now here we are on launch day and I won't be buying the game.

My particular issue with Origin is around the access it has to look around your PC. If the system was like Steam where you could decide whether you wanted to take part in hardware and software surveys, then fine and I would be on Battlefield right now.

So anyway has anyone else forsaken playing Battlefield 3 due to issues or concerns about Origin?

Edit: Will clarify one thing quickly that lots seem not to understand. Steam collects a lot of the same data from you that Origin does, in hardware and software surveys. The difference is that with Steam it is OPTIONAL. If it was optional with Origin (rather than just don't use it), I would no longer have any more issue with Origin, than I do for any other on-line distribution system.

Edit: New poll where you can be constructive and vote for if there is anything they could change with Origin that would make you use it: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.319931-Poll-What-could-EA-do-to-change-you-mind-about-using-Origin#13061566

I'm not even gunna start with you and other people that are so up in arms about Origin and how 'evil' EA is being.

Yes, I bought BF3 on Origin. Yes, you're missing out.

Played for a few hours last night, Origin (IMO) is absolutely no reason to skip on playing BF3

Exactly, so over military shooters.

I refuse to have anything published by EA installed on my computer, what with them being evil and such. Origin helped though.

Man walks in to waste EA employee's time, walks out with a discount. Where is the justice?

OT: Many websites, apps and even steam get tons of access to my data, Origin isn't that much worse. And boycotting would make me lose out on ME3, and hell no to that.

Until wine becomes compatible with Origin (similar to how wine was altered to allow steam) I can't play any of the games anyway. So yes, the presence of Origin is a deciding factor against me buying this game.

Origin, after they changed the EULA, isn't that much different from most other programs including Steam.

So no, Origin isn't stopping my purchase or BF3.

Except that it does quite a few things other shooters don't, so there goes the 'generic' label. I swear, generic is one of the most overused words in the gaming community.

If you like games like Battlefield, then Origin is no reason to miss on a great experience. Also, Terms of service on Steam say, it has the same rights as Origin to look on your PC.
So aside from that, I don't see what the problem is with Origin, except if you generally dislike programs like Steam and Origin.

So could someone tell me what the big problem is that people have with Origin?
Because I tried it and sure it doesn't really do anything better than Steam but it's not bad.

I'm still ensnared by TF2. Can't be bothered to touch another FPS right now, go away--choo!

Will respond to all 3 at once as there is a lot of overlap.

First where did I say EA are 'evil' in my post. Don't put words you have heard elsewhere in my mouth. I completely understand why they want would want to get these stats, and the purpose is not 'evil'.

But saying other places are doing this in the same way EA are with Origin is completely false. You want to tell me what these websites are that are collecting as much information as Origin without your permission (as that is the main issue here).

As I said above, they put in an opt out on supplying this data the same way Steam have, then I have no more particular problems with Origin.

Until then I will wait until there is a method of playing the game without needing Origin, before I buy.

Should perhaps also have added two more options:
3. Was never gonna buy it anyway, regardless of Origin or not, just hurling an angry vote over here.
4. It's EA and ORIGIN, EVIL! (puts on tin-foil hat)

On a more serious note, Origin isn't that bad, really. Sure, it's not as useful and packs as many cool features as Steam, but it's "okay". You won't even notice it's there.
Of all the things running on your computer, I'm pretty sure there's worse things in and out there "spying" on you, if that's even what it does. People need to chill down a few notches and not let something as subtle as Origin get in the way of insane amounts of fun.

Get over it.

I don't plan on getting it at all, not because of Origin, and people working for EA are not evil, there idiots at times. I don't plan on getting BF3 because its not the type of shooters I play, I play sci fi shooters.

Can we please stop this Ea is evil Valve is good thing, its getting annoying.
