Hello Escapist, as the thread title suggests, I'm wondering which version of the game should I get, so I'm asking you what's your thoughts on it.

Before any exposition, let me tell you a little experience I had with choosing a version. I happens that I purchased Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for PC, mostly for graphics, and because my PS3 was relatively new and I wasn't any good at FPS with joysticks. Now, I got far better at aiming with the PS3, so now the choice is more up to personal preferences, but I have the following issues:

PC: The PC will be a monster graphically speaking, that's not exactly hot news now, but at the same time, I'm sure that I'll end up having to upgrade my computer. I have no big issues with that, but it's worth mentioning. On the other hand, with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 I can't find online matches to play these day, which is a big letdown, because I enjoyed the multiplayer, but there's no one playing it today.

PS3: Well, I got the chance to see the PS3 version of the game, and yeah, the graphics difference is huge, I'm no graphic whore, but what makes the game stand out so far, let's face it, it's how impressive it looks. Purchasing it won't require any extra expenses, unlike the PC and I'm sure the Multiplayer will last longer, heck I'm still playing Battlefield 1943 and it's a game older than BF:BC2, so I'm sure I'll have online matches for a while.

So this is it, people, if you have the chance to have the game for different platforms, which one you recommend me getting and why?

I let the discussion to you people, thanks for your time.

PC version also features 64 player combat, whereas consoles feature 24 and smaller maps.

I'd say that is a fairly significant detail left out of what decided which one you get.

True that, my bad.

What in the flying fuck are you talking about? Have you even started up the damn game? BC2 is still very well populated.

EDIT: Enough raging, go with PC. Most PC communities are generally nicer and friendlier then the consoles' communities. Oh yeah, the extra 40 players is also a plus.

I would go with PC. They've outright stated that they're developing for the PC and porting to consoles.

The PC version has extra features like bigger maps and more players and your going to have to upgrade your computer eventually and the sooner you do the more time you have to enjoy it. A very important thing to note is that battlefield: bad company 2 was not a true battlefield game, hence the bad company title. Battlefield 2 was HUGE and as a player of that i was seriously turned off of the bad companies. I expect that bf3 will hold a large community for a long time. Whats more you since it's on the computer you have a lot more options like mods or other background gaming programs.

P.S. I've heard people complain about the lack of servers on bf: bc before but i just played to day and found an almost full server with low ping twice both in under a minute.

FPSs = PC. No matter how well you play using a controller, key+mouse would always make you better.

If EA change the wording of their Origin EULA to stop it giving the ability to snoop on everything your computer does and restricts themselves to looking at your Origin/EA games and how you use them then I would say PC. It will be better on PC in everyway, but I still don't like that EULA

PC. Since you're willing to upgrade, I'd definitely have to recommend the PC version. And - of course - 64 players on PC (as others have mentioned).

I'm very surprised that you're saying Bad Company 2 isn't very populated. I haven't played it for a bit, but when I did last (it really wasn't that long ago), there were hundreds of populated servers - if I remember correctly.

Coming from a PS3 user, get it for PC. If you don't have an issue with upgrading, as you said, it should be a clear choice. Full scale maps, 64 players and better graphics as opposed to maps cut down to 75% with 24 players.

I wish I could agree with that, but probably it's related to my region, with the PS3 I get to play with a lot of people from every corner of the world. With BF:BC2 it seems that I can only get connected to South American servers, last time I trid was last Sunday...

I agree 100% with this, I had conversations with people playing CoD4 and BF:BC2 on PC without knowing who the heck they were. In PS3, I barely ever talked to someone, and I probably did because they were from my country.

Also, the players amount is also a big plus.

I have this same dilemma. I am quite strapped for cash (enough to buy a game, not enough to upgrade a computer) and I am really looking forward to Battlefield 3, but my computer is old and slow and by the time I upgrade it, Battlefield 4 will probably have come out :p

I do have a Playstation 3, but the smaller battles and no jets does remove some of the appeal.

With the option for 128 players no less. So yeah, It's clear that the PC version will offer the superior Battlefield experience, as Battlefield is all about big, epic battles. I mean come on, 24 players? That's smaller than Bad Company 2, they managed 32 players just fine.

I do, I know even the Beta servers for BF2 are on, but so far I faved about 5 servers which are always empty for BF:BC2, and I swear I cannot find a populated server, no matter how much I try.
Again, it must be something about regions probably... I can't tell

Hmm, well considering that as you said, you'd need to upgrade to play on pc, as well as the fact that you won't need Origin on the console version makes me say you should swing towards the ps3.

Though I don't know if there's local multiplayer, if there is that's another push toward the console one.

So yeah, consoles win this time.

This is why I'm getting the PC version.

I was thinking very seriously about the PS3 version, but in my head BF2 > BF:BC2 multiplayer, purely because of the player count. much more engaging.

Now BF3 looks like it's basically an heavily updated BF2 with the frostbyte engine... I seriously can't wait.

What he said. Are you sure you don't have any connectivity issues or forgot to reload your server browser? Because I can always find tons of games to join.

Apart from the fact of, well, not even HAVING a PS3, I love the controls of the PC. There's just no other way to play an FPS in my opinion - I've tried and failed to work with the flimsy controls on most console games, no offense meant to those who use or prefer them. Heck, I envy your ability to use what I consider to be an inferior control.

But, with that said, I'm not going to buy it. Mostly because of Origin, but the fact that I don't really have much cash on me at the moment probably plays a part. I simply cannot stand having to hand over personal details when there's no justifiable reason for it - there's a reason why things such as Q+A teams for games were made, or simply just support centres. World of Warcraft doesn't absorb all of your personal data but it does just fine in keeping out hackers*. Looking back on things like Punkbuster, I can understand why they might do it, but it's pointless - they don't decrease the number of hackers at all, from my perspective. And Origin's not so much an anti-hacker program as much as it is a platform, so why do they even need this?

* The ones who hack the game, mind, not accounts - that really just happens anywhere there's a high enough amount of people.
