So, recently, I've been thinking about Battlefield, and picked up Bad Company 2 on the PC once more. After several hours of blowing up helicopters from the back of ATV's, C4'ing tanks into oblivion, and generally doing stupid, effective stuff, I decided to play some Battlefield 3. To my surprise, I found that I couldn't play for more than about 30 minutes. I simply found it irritating and frustrating to play.

This thread, however, is not to criticize Battlefield 3. I wish to ask you a question, fellow Escapists. Which Battlefield entry you prefer?

Ugh, Bad Company 2 was awful. Its definitely not a console thing because I adored the first Bad Company. BC 2 had worse class balance, awful unbalanced specs, far worse maps, ruined sniper rifles. The only thing it had that was superior to BC1 was slightly better gunplay(minus snipers) with ADS for most weapons.

BF3 to be fair had the worse map set of the series at the outset but with B2K, AK, and even CQ was decent. Class balance is better despite Recon being underpowered, specs are balanced and unobtrusive, the bolt actions were fixed at least(semis are still ruined)

BC2 was unbalanced, but still not broken by anybody's standards. BF3's only real flaw when compared to BC2 is its unnecessarily more serious tone.

Aaaargh, I don't know! I freaking loved the pants off BC2 and I preferred the art style and a lot of the maps but BF3 has more content, maps, is more free-form and has JETS.

I can't decide!

Bad Company 2.

It actually made use of it's destruction phsyics and was just plain fun and balanced in general.

I do like Battlefield 3 though.

I played bf3 first and then went back and played bc2, and it was a fun game but I just enjoyed bf3 more.

BC2 as well. I sunk a depressing number of hours into BC2, and still occasionally take it out for a whirl.

BF3, however, simply never got me. I tried to like it, I really did, but after something like 80 hours of gameplay, I still couldn't think of a single reason why I shouldn't be spending that time in BC2 if I was going to be playing an MMS.

I'm one of those odd folks who actually enjoy the Tom Clancy-esque storlines in these games, and I found Bad Company 2 (and the first, for that matter) to be a really fun, fresh look at the genre. I was hoping we'd get some resolution to the ending of 2 rather than the by-the-numbers game we got with 3 (at least in terms of single-player - I'll leave the MP to the experts).

Gotta go with Bad Company 2. I like BF3, but BC2 is just better overall. The destruction was epic the maps had much more variety, you had desert, jungle, snow, urban maps, where as in BF3 you have desert and urban maps. BC2 war more colorful and ran smoother, plus I LOVED the Vietnam expansion to death. BF3 has the Battlelog with is great compared to BC2 and several improvements, but I just like BC2 more.

Watch this from minute 1: Then tell me thats not epic.
BF3 just felt like a step backwards in that aspect. Sure the walls will crumble a bit and stuff, but its just not the same. (Didn't play Armored kill yet, so I cant judge that.)

EDIT: The single payer is miles better in BC2, was kinda shallow but had lots of witty and funny dialog. BF3 was just bland.

EDIT NR2: Fuck that, brb reinstalling BC2...

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I played the fuck out of BC2 and I was quite excited for BF3 but then they started doing all this weird stuff to the backend of the game and forcing origin and I decided to just stay the hell away from it.

I still have not been able to get into battlefield 3. And I really have tried

Bad Company 2 on the other hand, I loved and I wish I could still play it. (The matchmaking system just doesn't work for me anymore)

I'd go with BC2. It's multiplayer had character (And colour. Fucking desaturated bluefilter BF3), and the levels showed that DICE remembered focus and channeling. The players were directed towards points where conflict could occur, but not restricted in direction. BF3 manages to mangle Rush with attrocities like Operation Metro, or constant running in maps like Caspian Border. It manages to fail it in both directions-too open in parts, and entirely too closed off in others.

The jets are nothing to write home about. If you like them, and know how to use them, you're set. If you want to learn... prepare for no instructions, an incredibly steep learning curve, and having to trawl out some Flight School servers. Ew. The vehicles feel very limited on full 64 player servers, which gets incredibly annoying. And they never really utilise them in an interesting manner like Atacama Desert, or that map where the defenders start off on a small island.

BF3 makes most of the environments indestructible, and most of the time I find myself on my own, and when I have a large group of teammates, it's always a bad thing, a clusterfuck on Metro, or everyone getting trapped in a corridor on Grand Bazaar. It's tiresome I guess is what I'm pointing at. And the graphics are horrible. Technically superb, great engine, but utterly lifeless and without art direction. The colour is entirely muted, filtered desaturated muck.

The Close Quarteres content pack basically took random spawn CoD style maps and inserted them into BF3. The maps lack imagination, and they're no more fun. The latency problems many players still experience with Frostbite don't make this more fun than the competitors either.

I didn't like BC2 at first, but it grew on me, especially as I unlocked things, and now it's one of my favourites. BF3 has fatigued me, and is now a game I never play, and likely won't again.

Oh, and the singleplayers. BC2 is a cliched piece of boring stupid nonsensical crap, which is occassionally loads of fun. BF3 is boring and not fun (That jet mission actually bored me. I got bored of my entertainment meant to prevent me from getting bored. That's a terrible failure). So it loses there as well.

The campaign in Bad Company was genius compared to Battlefield 3 one. Not that it was that good, but BF3 was that bad. In terms of multiplayer, though, Battlefield 3 is better that Bad Company...

It depends on what you are looking for.

That's not epic. The houses are build from legos and when certain lego blocks go magically *poof* a pre-determined animation will kick in and kill everyone near the building. There's nothing dynamic about that destruction and the fact that it's so completely static makes it boring pretty fast. It still boggles my mind that Battlefield 3 managed to have even more limited destruction.

On topic, BC2 is better but just slightly. BC2 is techically a better game thanks to smoother framerates and more responsive aiming but BF3 catches up with better visuals and gun handling (recoil mainly). Battlefield 3's broken audio tips the scale in BC2's favor though.

I far prefer BC2, it's just so much more fun! I have been playing since release and enjoyed every minute since they fixed most of the issues I had with patches (it took many patches but they got there in the end...).

BF3 felt more like BF2 therefore BF3 for me.

BC2 weapons felt like toys, none of it had a real thump.

But the only BF i love is BF1942. Every Battlefield since has been a step back.
