I treat girls differently in most things in life ...

... forgive me for living up to (down to?) everyone's worst expectations, but even as a married man I'm not out of touch with my baser instincts. And those instincts say "be nice to girls because there is a possibility, however insanely remote, that she maybe, perhaps, one day, will want to have SEX with me!!!" Whether I try to see those instincts through to fruition is besides the point.
I often get annoyed with myself for it, but this is very much true. Except the married bit, of course.

One solution is to prevent that by not trying to learn the gender of anyone you're merely playing with. Unless you're actively socialising in guild / clan context it doesn't matter whether you're shooting at somebody with or without boobs.

i only play with a friend in a party, so mostly i don't even hear the other players. but if i did, i wouldn't treat anyone differently.
That's not really the point, that's like saying sex without making a baby is useless =p

Sometimes.

If the person's a female they'd be more likely to get a typical "Kitchen -> Sandwich" joke than a guy. Though I've been known to toss out the sexist joke at the guys expense as well, Gay or Straight.

If you mean giving them creepy messages or special treatment simply because their girls, then no. Granted a lot of this is in WoW, so text not voice, I'm never on voice over programs.

I wouldn't know who is male or female. I treat them both with equal parts hatred and apathy of their injuries and/or disorders.

I don't necessarily treat them differently, although I do find I tend to get along with them better than I do with guy gamers. What can I say? They tend to be more patient and don't mind joking around a bit in co-op games.

On the Internet, they are only a few types of people.

Men and Men.
Children are Cops.
Women are Men.

Sums it up.

My first ever online gaming experience was a gamespy challenge vs Kornelia, so the first girl gamer i ever met was so scary good and i was seriously impressed with her, i sent her a message of thanks for such an awesome game and got a friendly reply so i guess i started with a positive image of female gamers. To be fair most of the people at the challenge were just excited to be squaring off against such a pro and i didn't hear much in the way of sexist banter from them

But generally, I'm not a bad guy online, much more likely to say 'good game' than 'piss up a rope fuckstick' and i guess i treat everybody the same regardless of gender: Friendly and polite unless they give me a reason to treat them any other way.

If a girl gamer started smacktalking me i would probably smacktalk back (equally if a guy was smacktalking me) but i dont think i would feel the need to make any sexist remarks as i would feel i was cheapening myself.

If I do play online, which isn't all that often, I don't use my mic much. I will wear it, but it will be on mute so no one will know that I'm a girl and muttering curses at them.

I used to get messages that were either politely flirty to if they wanna know if I'm in their area and hook up, or some shit like that. I will say one guy defended me from this one dude being a complete jackass, it was awesome and hilarious, and he was pretty cool. Too bad we didn't friend each other since he was fun to play MP with if I ran into him.

Yeah, until they mention that they're a girl for pity.
Then I pretty much just say "good for you, and I'm a guy, shut up and play the game."

Kill them like anyone else, hunt down campers as I do with others, not talk to them on mic same as everyone else, mute all like everyone else, ban them if they cheat like everyone else, so on and so forth ... ya I do.

Well, literally no. I may not use the same insults for a male friend and female friend online, but then that is true for someone from New Jersey and someone from Saskatchewan too. Too many personal variables for friends, guildmates etc.

If it is just a random player I don't, or I don't think I do.

I treat players based on their skill and attitude. If you suck, I offer pointers, if you suck and a buttwipe, then I make fun of you. Conversely, if you're good, I congratulate you, if you act like an asshat, I claim to have had relations with your mother/girlfriend/sister.
Although, I am more apt to treat lady gamers a bit more politely, honestly.

Well, I've "met" quite a few online when I played WoW usually either randomly or in whatever guild I was in at the time (moreso in the Cataclysm days). I could at least be sure with the one's in the guild that the people behind the characters were definitely female, not just the avatars :). But yeh, I would usually, perhaps subconsciously treat them differently, a bit like I would do in real life I guess.

Still, a fellow guildmate in an MMORPG is a different environment than that haven of respect and equality known as an online FPS match on XBL. Perhaps because of that, I could count on one hand (with three fingers removed) the number of people who I can definitely confirm as being female.

One was a random who turned up a game of Halo: Reach Slayer and she couldn't for the life of her get a single kill. The poor things lamentations soon became too much to bear, so I took the rather cheap move of standing there without offering any resistance long enough for her to chalk up one kill. If it was just some guy, I would have of course just berated him for being such a rubbish player.

The girl was likely a bit of an attention seeker mind, as it wasn't long after that I got a friend request and her XBL profile bio went something along the lines of

"looooooool facebook ad meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :p "

Not that I did, not being one to buy into the "random facebook friends you don't actually know" school of thought.

Of course I do since what do I gain for berating a female gamer? No acting some big macho guy or someone superior is not a benefit to me.

haven't met that many really (probably a couple dozen, if that), although i wouldn't doubt i've met more as i'm sure quite a few girls play mic-less and as a guy avatar to avoid this kind of shit, so who knows.

honestly i couldn't give two shits, we both have two sets of hands so it makes little difference to me who i'm playing, as long as they aren't a douchebag.

Of course. I don't see the point of treating someone differently just because OMG TITS, it just comes off as pathetic.

I am completely indifferent to a person's gender in an online game. If 3 years of wow is any indication there is a lot of lying in this poll.
