I couldn't give a shit really, I am who I am. I have my abilities and traits just like everyone else.

Pride is a subjective concept. If taking pride in your abilitites, natural or not, helps you succeed, be prideful. If it hinders you and makes you complacent, get rid of it.

Insofar as other people have pride, it doesn't really effect you. Maybe someone got a job because they were better than you with their natural gifts despite how hard you worked your ass off. Too bad. You need to work harder if you want it.

That's it. Whether things are right or wrong in your mind is irrevelevant to what they simply are. Unless you have the power to change the rules, you need to get better at "playing the game".

I have no "Pride" for anything about myself.

I have traits that I'm happy with, however, I see no reason to explain proudness of them.

Although, a humbleness of such things is a rather British requirement.

I'm bisexual, but "pride" isn't the word I'd use to describe how I feel about it. I rather feel that anyone who has a problem with it isn't a person I want to associate with, so I just don't care. It's not like I shout it from the rooftops anyhow.

I do feel some unexplainable pride towards my nationality. Finland has some shitstains on its record, but all in all I think it could be much worse.

I'm proud of my athletic ability, not because of my natural talent, but because of the hard work I put into being the best I can be. I'm also proud of the friends i've made, because I know that they will have my back when times get tough.

It's more about the issues behind "gay pride" than "what are you proud of about yourself".
It's just another one of those "too much of a good thing is a bad thing" situations.

Well, I confess to feeling a bit patriotic at times, and I have no idea why. I didn't contribute to my nation doing anything. It's a stupid idea but I think yes, sometimes you can be proud because you just happen to have or be something.

As for personal characteristics though, I'd say I'm more glad that I am whatever rather than proud to be whatever.

Fairly recently, I let it be publicly known at my school that I'm attracted to dudes, and someone asked me yesterday why I don't ever express "Gay Pride" via clothing/rallies/social media/ect. I ended up telling her that while it is sometimes necessary to fight bigotry with self-empowerment, I don't feel "proud" of my sexuality just as I don't feel "proud" of being white or male or born in America. It'd be weird for people to walking around saying "Straight Pride", so I don't feel it's any different just because I'm in the minority.
I love you. Er, not in that way, but you get the point.

People who express "gay pride" confuse me. Last time I checked, it wasn't a choice. You didn't work hard to become gay, did you? Of course it only become a thing to combat homophobia (another stupid term, they aren't all afraid of gays, they are just bigots), but still I wonder what the people who thought up the term were thinking.

Uh, contrary to my opening segway, this was meant to be a discussion on the nature of pride itself rather than the pros and cons of the gay pride movement. So he's got the right idea actually.

I am happy with who I am. You can't really be proud of yourself, rather your achievements. If your proud of something you can't control, well more power to you but I don't think you should be since it isn't something you did.

Only thing I really feel pride in is how far I've come playing drums.
Never thought I would progress this far.

That said, I still suck. :p

Anyway, I'm in the Carlin camp. Being proud of a genetic accident is silly.
Also from the angry wise one, "pride goeth before a fall".

I can't be proud of my family or the traditions that my family do?

Yeah, but it comes down to putting it in other peoples face's, i.e. a "tehcookie's family pride movement" that really isn't necessary since it rarely affects other people. Same thing with gay marriage, I don't understand why people are against it since it doesn't affect them in the slightest.

Gay pride has more, if not everything to do with being proud of who you are in the face of an oppressive society that wants to change you, than with actually being proud for digging dudes.

And seeing as I've never faced oppression from society, I don't feel proud of my natural heritage.

I guess you can be proud of what your family has done but not act superior to others because of it. The traditions, well if you've taken part in them, I guess it is alright in my books.
