I'm sorry, did you actually leave out Heath Ledger and Javier Bardem? I refuse to vote on this.

From that list Jackson, hes the only one that stuck out there his role in Pulp Fiction will remain a cult classic and defined the whole movie, his screen presance style and preformance were all strong.

Will Ferrel is not a great actor. He is a good comedian, I enjoy his films. But he is on there ahead of people like Robert Duvall, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt etc...this is not on

And don't get me started on Stiller or *shudders* Carrey

There should be an "other" option

Bad list, bad poll.

As well as others above have mentioned, your list also lacks:
-Kevin Spacey
-Dustin Hoffman
-Tom Hanks
-Marlon Brando
-Al Pacino
-Peter Sellers
-Gene Hackman
-Jack Nicholson
-Anthony Hopkins

Nobody seems to have mentioned any female actors...I know there aren't many really good ones around the big time in hollywood at the moment but is the omission a result of sexism or perhaps simply ignorance? Maybe the poll title should read 'best male actor'. So here's a few worth adding:

-Elizabeth Taylor
-Katherine Hepburn
-Emma Thompson
-Faye Dunaway
-Diane Keaton

The men and women on my list are *proper* actors, the poll's list includes some real talent but with the exceptions of Jackson and De Niro nobody close to being worthy of the title 'best actor'. Seriously, I love Stargate SG1 but Richard Dean Anderson!?!?!??

Edit: noticed that poll has been amended and withdraw some of my initial harshness.

Why can't people on this sight come up with decent poll options?

You forgot a LOT of people that are much more deserving than half of those people:

- Tom Hanks
- Al Pacino
- Jack Nicholson
- Anthony Hopkins
- Kevin Spacey
- Johnny Depp
- Patrick Stewart <- I can't believe nobody has mentioned him. He is probably the most talented of all.
- Dustin Hoffman

Yeah, you can't make this a poll without angering lots of people because their favorite weren't on it.

For me, in no particular order...

Edward Norton
Simon Pegg
Gene Hackman
Leonardo DiCaprio (post-Titanic)
Brad Pitt (he's actually really diverse and not just a pretty-boy)
Robin Williams (especially in non-comedic roles)
Alan Arkin
Jean Reno
Anthony Hopkins
Al Pacino
Jamie Foxx

And as for actresses...

Joan Allen
Michelle Monaghan
Dakota Fanning (call me a pervert, but she's done some good work)

My vote goes to Morgan Freeman. He can sell the most boring documentary of paint drying, just with his voice.

Where the hell is Keanu Reeves?
Most of the actors you listed aren't really worthy of the title "best".
Even if they are your personal choices.
I'd have to go with Morgan Freeman.
I'm still in post-Shawshank euphoria.

From those listed, it's got to be Freeman or Deniro. Honorable mention goes to Richard Dean Anderson. MacGyer and Jack O'Niel are probably two of my favorite television characters of all time.

WHOA.

I would like to see
Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, and John Malkovich on that list.
I love Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen movies, but they are not good actors. Seth Rogen relies too much on his lovable voice and chubbiness for comedic effect, and Paul Rudd relies too much on his awkward personality for a laugh. Then again, they tend to be in Apatow flicks, someone who is known for making light out of minor situations.
