Before you judge me, I had this list planned out in my head for a while, and I'm NOT just taking things and adding on to Yahtzee's hoard of titles mentioned in the Madworld review. I've been planning to do this post for a while.

I know some of these include puzzle solving such as God of War, Viewtiful Joe, and Devil May Cry, but the general concept is the same.
ANYWAY, what's your favorite? Mine is the Ninja Gaiden Series. Infact, I think Ninja Gaiden 2 is the best game in the world!! I like all of them though, except Godhand and Streets of Rage, which I've been wanting to play but haven't done so, yet. And yeah, I accidently left out some other good ones while making this (Dynasty Warriors, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jackie Chan Adventures: Legend of the Dark Hand, Double Dragon, Final Fight, etc.)

Where's Final Fight and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? In their absence, I voted for MadWorld.

love Devil May Cry, but my vote goes to Viewtiful Joe. I always thought it was aimed to be serious in the most cheesy yet funny way possible for their plot. the PS2 title actually had Dante from DmC so i guess bonus points in my book as well.

Do most of those on the list even count as Beat 'Em Ups? Most of them are just action. Anyway point being TEKKEN is the best Beat 'Em Up series.

I chose God of War, but only because of Heavenly Sword.

My vote would have gone to Dynasty Warriors if it had been listed.

These are hack'n'slash games, not beat 'em ups.

But on topic I really like God of War, from the list provided.

Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are fighting games, not beat 'em ups. Granted, I think you're right that most of them are hack'n'slash...but when I think "beat 'em up," I immediately think 2D side-scroller ala Streets of Rage or Final Fight, so I'm probably wrong on that.

Sorry, despite the strong nostalgia factor for Streets of Rage 2, I'm going with Devil May Cry.

A beat 'em up thread without Double Dragon? How could this be! [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lQGnsXM3RA]

Wikipedia begs to differ. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_'em_up] Calling Street Fighter a beat 'em up is an inaccuracy similar to calling Super Mario an adventure game.

But!

From the list, it's probably a toss between Devil May Cry and God Hand. God Hand is an excellent game and the Devil May Cry has two nice games (1 and 3). Hm, I guess I'll vote for the underdog and go for God Hand, since DMC series has two crap titles.

It's pretty much a tie between God of War and Devil May Cry for me. I guess DMC just a bit more, since Dante is simply such a snarky dude.

My mistake then, but Ninja gaiden(the new ones at least) god of war and devil may cry, don't belong on this list as they are hack 'n' slash games.

Of those choices, I went with Viewtiful Joe. The slick graphics, tight controls, fun music and killer gameplay made even better by those amazing (at the time) slow down, speed up and zoom in superpowers were the reasons I bought a Nintendo Gamecube.

Of all time, though, I gotta go with Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie. It's not the best beat 'em up of them all, but me and my sister played it a lot, so I have a lot of good memories of it. Also, I always thought the ability to morph into your superpowered Ranger form at any point in the stage (provided you have enough energy) was cool.

Woow Streets of rage. First off i have to thank you for that. Oh many of hours i spent smashing away at people in Streets2. Although i Do wish you included doubledragon, or final fight "Ooohh my cah", river city, bad dudes lol. Even though we all know god of war will win this poll. As it should really if you think about it.

im very surprised to see that No More Heroes hasn't gotten more votes. I voted for it, but looking through the sites forums, it seems that many people tend to blindly parrot Yahtzee's every word, so in a way, I'm kind of pleased that people aren't doing that here. Still, I think it was a fantastic game, and most reviewers didn't give it enough credit for all of the things it does so right. Ninja Gaiden 2 was fun for me until the harder stages, where I was able to make it past based only on whether or not the camera was in a good mood. I hate Devil May Cry, and Viewtiful Joe is a game I really want to play, because it looks incredible.
