I wasn't Forced Per-se' to read 1984, but I hold it as one of my favorite books.
Also, Big Brother is not watching you.
Or is he?

I'm in much the same situation as you. I was not forced to read it in particular, but I was forced to read a number of books presented on a list, and 1984 was one of them. I love that book. If I ever have kids, that will be the first book they read.
I doubt they'll understand it (Especially if they read it at a young age)
But I like where your head is at.

i havent had any good books to read FROM school yet, but when we had to make a book review, i took 1 of my own books i hadnt read before: Malus Darkblade: The Daemon´s Curse. Imagine the backhead of a guy exploding. thats how i felt after reading it. its a series, and ive only reviewed 2 out of 5 so far. and the 5th is the best :( will take some time before i get to review that.

The Edge Chronicles book one. (Which has a proper name but I can't remember it.) I liked it so much I bought all the current books to date.

It might be the fact that I'm tired as all hell, but that gave me a really good chuckle.

"In The Lake of the Woods" by Tim O'brien was surprisingly good, especially considering how goody-goody christian my school is, maybe they just wanted to avoid letting us read 1984 because it struck a little too close to home

the worst would easily be a book i had to read at the same time as LoW, "Fly Away Peter" by David Malouf, its about a country guy who watches birds for a job, goes to fight in WW1 and dies, no interesting themes or ideas and some of the most bland, one-dimensional characters ever conceived (cept for maybe Twilight which a chick friend forced me too read)

Did you watch the film as well? At the bit at the end where George shoots Lennie my entire class went HEADSHOT, I think that might have spoilt it a bit for my english teacher.

Catcher in the Rye. Seriously, it was a high school assignment. Awesome...
doesn't ghost in the shell reference catcher in the rye a lot?
such as the laughing man's icon thing. 'i thought what i'd do is pretend i was one of those deaf-mutes.'

i heard it was from catcher in the rye but i could be wrong. /:
You might be right. They both have some parallels. But I couldn't say for sure, it's been sometime since ye olde high school.
it's been like two years for me. and it seems like decades.

Had to read The Aeneid for Classics class, and it's one of the best books I've ever read. I tend to choose to read big books though, if only to make myself look smart (example - Dante's Inferno)
