Well I guess I don't know what a good game is, because I can surely state that CoD 4 is not only my favorite CoD game but also my favorite game. Ever.

You're going to have to try harder than that.
Well I guess you indeed don't know what a good game is then! Any game reviewer worth their salt, sees that almost all CoD games are mediocre at best. The only reason it's so immensely popular is because casuals keep buying it, thinking they bought some epic hardcore game. And no, don't come with some 'official' review site. As most official review sites are NOT worth their salt. And neither is metacritic or something similar, since those reviews come from ignorant users mostly.
Uh, when was being a reviewer brought up?
Personal preference is a thing you know. I mean Mirror's Edge wasn't very well received and I quite liked it, doesn't mean I don't know what a good game is, just means that I have strange tastes.
Reviews only help as guidelines, you need to always keep personal preference in mind.

I never did bring up reviews/reviewers. Although saying all reviewers who gave any CoD game a good score aren't very good reviewers because of their opinions on a single game/franchise is a pretty big generalization.

For me, it'll always be the one that started it all. CoD. Followed closely by the UO expansion.

I'm probably not in the best position to answer this, but I gave my vote to Black Ops based on the first game alone. Why? Black Ops was really the only one that caught my interest. I've never really been into military shooters, so Call'o'Duty it was never really my series.

But... there was something about Black Ops, with its conspiracy, and 60's, and Kennedies that seemed amusing. I still kinda remember the scene before the last mission where the dude gives the piece of information that the CIA needs and Hudson puts on his shades before the scene fades to black. Since it was the only Call of Duty I ever really played, I had some fun, even though I was garbage at the multiplayer.

Black Ops 2, though? Probably not. But it's not gonna stain my romp through the jungle with the looming threat of a dude named Charlie.

Modern Warfare 3, for the multiplayer. Couldn't give a damn how bad the single player is, multiplayer is all I care about.
Even then it's shit.

The first MW and WaW are the best as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone saying that CoD:MW was the best game either 1: Didn't play the first two CoD's or 2: Doesn't know what the hell constitutes a good game.
I did, and I can't even begin to describe to you how much I disagree.

Oh, and that's my answer. Call of Duty 4. An amazing piece of work that the industry is still feeling the shockwaves from today (for better and for worse).

United Offensive for mine...although COD4 wasn't bad, I particularly liked the ending, seeing Price (War Criminal) die and the protagonist Soap permanently crippled, seemed a fitting end to the whole bloody debacle...then they brought them back for a sequel...

I'm disappointed that CoD3 isn't on this poll. Although widely reviled as the worst, It's the one that I enjoyed the most (fiending the splitscreen in a friends basement. Good times).

Personally I can't agree with that, no matter what. (The multiplayer that is)

I for one prefer MW1 and MW2 best, both single-player, and multi. I had the most fun with them, even with MW2's problems (shitty matchmaking, lag, etc...). I still play them from time to time.
I agree that MW3 was kinda shitty, but why was there so much hate on MW2? Besides the technical problems i mean.

I still like CoD 1 best. CoD 2 introduced that godawful health regeneration and I will always hate it for that.

Second best is CoD 4. IT had a great campaign. I still prefer CoD 1 campaign because I love WW2 theme and I actually enjoyed the characters more. It was like I was playing in an awesome WW2 movie.

Or they just have their own opinion? Imagine that eh? It's madness.

OT: Call of Duty: World at War

Look, dude that I just quoted, I have an opinion that differs from yours!

What is wrong with you people? Have you ever considered that those 15 people chose Call of Duty: Black Ops because it genuinely was their favourite of the series. We're not all one big hive brain you know? People do have different opinions.

The only one that I really enjoyed, with the best level structure and set pieces was the first Modern Warfare.

The first level on the boat with the SAS? When it starts sinking and your tearing out of the thing like your life depends on it. Awesome stuff
And after that it just says Infinity Ward Presents: Call of Duty 4: Modern warfare. And it's like: Shit, that was just a teaser intro. By that moment, you knew the game was gonna be awesomely good.

Official reviews only serve as guide lines. There are however also good reviewers out there that give as objective a look on a game as they can, and aren't afraid to give criticism where it is due.

Stop putting words in my mouth. I never said 'because a review gave a good score, it must be a bad reviewer!' I said 'Any reviewer that knows what they're doing, gave it a bad score'. The only good scores I've seen came from 'official' sites like IGN, and user reviews. Yet those reviews always skip over actual criticism and only focus on the good points, or even outright lie about how good or bad a point it. User reviews also have bad ones, yes, but like I said, user reviews in general are a very poor benchmark. Good or bad. Now, whenever I heard a review of CoD that actually talked about it intellectually and gave solid, constructive criticism, they always gave those games a bad score.

Except neither my or your personal opinion matters. It's just personal opinion. What matters is the reviews of people that actually do know what they're talking about. And if your opinion disagrees with such people, you're wrong.
