I say Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, back when there were only three kill streak rewards and the didn't feel like it played itself half the time. I don't mind getting shot by someone who saw me first but when i enter a game spawn killed repeatedly by a some sort of killstreak support then i have a problem. though i did dislike the stopping power and juggernaut perks as they just cheapened the game.

as for MW3 i bought it from CEX for £15, not buying into the map packs or the COD Elite bull. they don't deserve the money for a yearly patch-update-on-a-disc.

I do have to give a shout out to Call Of Duty 2 though, as i played a little of it and liked it but never got round to buying it myself.

I like World at War the best, if only just because it's the one I've put the most time into. I loved the missions, the Nazi Zombies, and the Multiplayer.

Of course, I haven't played many Call of Duty games, so I am most likely 100% wrong and deserve to be punished.

I never did bring up reviews/reviewers. Although saying all reviewers who gave any CoD game a good score aren't very good reviewers because of their opinions on a single game/franchise is a pretty big generalization.
Stop putting words in my mouth. I never said 'because a review gave a good score, it must be a bad reviewer!' I said 'Any reviewer that knows what they're doing, gave it a bad score'. The only good scores I've seen came from 'official' sites like IGN, and user reviews. Yet those reviews always skip over actual criticism and only focus on the good points, or even outright lie about how good or bad a point it. User reviews also have bad ones, yes, but like I said, user reviews in general are a very poor benchmark. Good or bad. Now, whenever I heard a review of CoD that actually talked about it intellectually and gave solid, constructive criticism, they always gave those games a bad score.
Stop acting like reviews that gave a game you don't like a good score are an affront to civilization. Why is it so important that all reviews must reflect your opinion? If a reviewer gave a CoD game a good score, why does that mean they don't know what they're doing? Maybe, just maybe, the reviewers liked those games. Slim chance, I know, but maybe they realize that reviews shouldn't be taken as seriously as you are taking them. They realize that reviews reflect the reviewers opinion and not the opinion of the reader. If one reviewer gives a game a good score, that doesn't mean he's "not worth his salt." And yes, saying they aren't worth their salt or they don't know what they are doing is the same as saying they are bad reviewers.

I'd vote for Black Ops as the worst, not the best. The multiplayer was the biggest train wreck of awfulness that I have ever played online.

Modern Warfare is the best, even though MW3 sucked too. CoD4 alone makes the MW series easily the best.
Exactly my opinion. Loads of people tout Black Ops as having the best Multiplayer of any CoD game, when in fact I would rank it not only lower than the MW games (especially the first MW, which I consider to be the best non-Co-op based multiplayer ever made), but also lower down than WaW (broken as it was) and even Call of Duty 3's multiplayer. I LOATHED Black Ops' multiplayer.

Gotta say though, I don't think I've ever heard anyone praise Black Ops for its plot as the OP did; I mean, Call of Duty games aren't known for their storylines, but even by the standards of a multiplayer-based military shooter Black Ops' story was incoherent nonsense.
Then again, his use of the word "badass" in what seemed like a non-ironic context invalidated his opinion for me :p

So yeah, my vote goes toward the unvotable COD 3. It ws the first one I ever played, and I had the most total fun with it.

One, two, Th-

You can't count to three? How are "COD 1" and "COD 2" each a different series?

Call of Duty 2 is my favorite.

But World at War will always hold a special place in my heart as being my first Xbox live game I played on my own account. Man did I play that game a lot.. until the tidal wave of modders came...

I still prefer the first one, I HATE regenerating health in MP and because it remains the only game I've played where when you're really beat up the AI NPCs will still sometimes clear the section for you. Groundbreaking and still the standard in some ways. But Modern Warfare would be a close second anyway because it was just so good. Hardcore mode overcame most of my complaints about regenerating health by being so leathal.

Or they just have their own opinion? Imagine that eh? It's madness.

OT: Call of Duty: World at War

Look, dude that I just quoted, I have an opinion that differs from yours!

Except neither my or your personal opinion matters. It's just personal opinion. What matters is the reviews of people that actually do know what they're talking about. And if your opinion disagrees with such people, you're wrong.
That is the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time.

CoD 2 was definetly the best, CoD MW was almost as good, and then became the downhill

Stop twisting my words around... I said reviewers that don't know what they're doing, gave the game good reviews. Not that they don't know what they're doing because they gave bad reviews.

Hi, welcome to the internet. You must be new here if THAT was the dumbest thing you have ever heard.

Also, please do tell why it's so dumb. Just going 'you're dumb, so nyah!' isn't exactly helping your case unless you can actually substantiate it.

"Any game reviewer worth their salt, sees that almost all CoD games are mediocre at best."
Therefore, if they give a CoD game a good score (above mediocre), they aren't "worth their salt." In your opinion at least.

First of all I never said it was the dumbest thing I've ever heard, just the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

It's dumb because you seem to think that if I disagree with a reviewer that makes me wrong. It's stupid because reviews themselves are the opinion of the reviewer, that's why all reviews of a game are different and not exactly the same. Disagreeing with a reviewers opinion doesn't make someone wrong.

Are you one of these people that never judge a game for themselves and need a reviewer to tell you whether a game is good or not? Reviews are there as guidelines and they shouldn't be taken as seriously as you seem to be taking them.

Well I guess I don't know what a good game is, because I can surely state that CoD 4 is not only my favorite CoD game but also my favorite game. Ever.

You're going to have to try harder than that.
Well I guess you indeed don't know what a good game is then! Any game reviewer worth their salt, sees that almost all CoD games are mediocre at best. The only reason it's so immensely popular is because casuals keep buying it, thinking they bought some epic hardcore game. And no, don't come with some 'official' review site. As most official review sites are NOT worth their salt. And neither is metacritic or something similar, since those reviews come from ignorant users mostly.
You realise that critically all of Call of Duty games since CoD4 have been met with nigh universal critical acclaim? I mean, I'm not saying its deserved, but you are saying that virtually every single game critic alive is just flat out incorrect seems a bit silly...

Where's Call of Duty Big Red 1?!

OT: CoD2
That game was epic and amazing without having to blow up nukes.

If you think I'm wrong, play it. It's only like $5 now.

I think the best of Call of Duty has passed. The first three were really fun to play, but after that the series just died to me. Sure World at War and Black OPS were fun to play especially Nazi Zombies but they just never captured the same feeling as the first three.
