Added a couple more poll options. And I'm still beating my head against the wall for forgetting Jack while remembering Adam.

And it's really interesting seeing the opinions of others. As for those commenting on the old series (all two of you thus far):

Second, if I included the old series, Ace would win by a long shot.
Don't you believe it. Romana, Peri and Leela pwn Ace.
Maybe Romana and Leela, but I was under the impression that most people disliked Peri for being the quintessential "damsel in distress" for her entire run.

Rose is awful and should be forcefed her own mascara. Donna and Amy are my favourites. Definitely agree that Adric is the worst ever.
You know it's bad when you have the majority of the fanbase applauding when you die. And yeah, that was a spoiler. The episode is 30 years old. Spoilers have expiration dates, you know.

Edit: And I find it extremely entertaining that someone actually voted for Mickey. I don't necessarily disagree, but I didn't expect that. Now, if someone votes for Adam, I'll really know that they are just messing with me.

Only the TV run. If you include the audio/book stuff, she's one of the most prevalent Doctor Companions.

And Nicola Bryant is cute ;)

And Adric wasn't the worst, quite. Melanie beats him.

As much as I hate to admit it, Donna Noble. But if things carry on as good as they are in the new series Amy Pond will be overtaking her soon.

EDIT: Is Adam the one who appeared in Dalek and then was left behind in the next episode?

For me, it's a toss-up between Rose and Donna, really. You see, they were both practically hilarious when needed, and generally just good at making the Doctor behave. In the end, though, I have to stack up their epic moments and tilt this more in the favor of Bad Wolf.

The Doctor Donna was complete awesometude. It's just that it forced Donna to have a total regression of memory or she dies. That was tragic. Bad Wolf let Rose remain as a companion, even though she forget what the hell she did for a while and the Doctor had to regenerate after taking the energy away. I give Rose the kudos for Bad Wolf - which came up DURING Donna's time - and because of another reason.

Maybe it was just that random selection or a trick of the fates, but the revival of the series was cast in Eccleston and Piper. Brilliant though the Doctors after have been, I give credit to these two for the revival. They did it, and the cast that followed kept up the fire. So, that is why I vote Rose.

Donna Noble wins it for me.

Rose - Ok character, but came with far too much baggage thanks to her annoying mother and Micky the idiot. She also had zero character development.
Capt Jack - Would have been more popular if he hadn't been referencing his sexuality every 10 minutes. If he had been played straight (comedy-wise) instead of as a bit of comic relief then I'd have put him in my top 3.
Martha Jones - Annoying and forgetable. The only good thing I can remember about series 3 is Blink and so the fact I can't really remember anything about her automatically puts her at the bottom of the list.
Donna Noble - The only companion to not fall for the Doctor and this certainly helped her character arc. She was the right level of ignorant and intelligent and the fact she showed real growth as the series went on made her as close to perfect as a companion could be. Her ending was also heart-breaking and the fact they teased her then screwed things over in the final two specials of 2009 made me want to beat the crap out of RTD.
Amy Pond - Sadly she comes across more smug then confident and the fact she has been played as smarter then the Doctor in 3 out of 4 episodes means she annoys me a lot. This is a pity as she had the best introduction for any companion so far. There are only 2 reasons I can think of keeping her around and they are both below her waist.

I don't really understand why people like pond. She is boring imo.

Rose was a bit too emotionally involved for me, micky I don't count as a companion, Amelia Pond is boring and a bit cliche'. Donna Noble was ok, I don't like catherine tate's comedy, but she worked pretty well as a companion, especially to break up the habit of companions falling in love with the doctor. (Which I'm sure amelia is going to break).

But really, I liked Martha Jones, because she actually brought believable use to the show. And she was down to earth.

I think Amelia Pond is a very good companion, actually.

Plus she's erm... *cough* [sub]rather attractive... >.>[/sub]

I'll go with rose. She was the best out of the series I saw just because she seems more at ease with the Doctor, they complimented each other IMO. As for the others I absolutely hated Martha and Donna; both were .... how do you say it....bitchy?

Donna, easily. She was funny, headstrong and she wasn't afraid to disagree with the Doctor, unlike the other companions.

Amy's attractive, sure, but her acting is average and she outsmarts the Doctor so much it's annoying.

Amelia or Donna would both take my vote.
They are both strong characters, and Donna was just a fun character to see the Dr. interact with. And Amelia has some potential...

I liked Donna the best out of your choices. Even though I think that everything with her seemed a bit rushed (she should have been there for more than one season). I would have liked to see "The Doctor Donna" for more than 15 seconds.

However, if Micky counts as a companion then so would Captain Jack Harkness and that man is awesome! He beats everyone automatically.

Amy Pond is the worst. She adds nothing, I would rather him not even have a companion if I had to choose.

Thus far, Wilf gets my vote. Bernard Cribbins was EXCELLENT in the Christmas specials.

However, Amy Pond gets half a vote for being damn fit.
(shame her character is too smug)

Tough call... Leaving out Amy (haven't seen enough yet to judge, although at this stage, I think by the end of the series she'll have my vote) it came down to Rose "I'm doing it for love" Tyler or Donna "Temp worker powah!" Noble. While the Doctor Donna was very cool, imo, My vote's going to Rose. The only one of the three companions thus far to get something (approximately) like what she wanted/deserved. And while Karen Gillan is indeed gorgeous, I still think Billie Piper is cute as hell =P

Gonna say Amy, at least when Steven Moffat is writing her.

Martha was hotter, just a shame the writers were still too busy wanking off the Rose character to give Martha a personality of her own at the time. And the weird and awkward attempts to turn her into a badass military type just don't work. >.>
