80's. Most of the shows I watched in the 90's (when I was a kid) were re-runs of TMNT, Transformers, Power Rangers, Dark Wing Duck, Samurai Pizza Cats. Shows from the 80s.

I also watched Pokemon, Digimon, Batman: TAS, AAAAAAAHHHHH: Real Monsters, and Beast Wars. But I think TMNT and Transformers were too awesome to ignore.

EDIT: Apparently Dark Wing Duck was 90's. I might have to reconsider.

The only cartoon, as in not anime, i've ever watched and actually enjoyed is Tom and Jerry.
So i'll go with 40's. Altho my favourite episodes may be from the the late 50's early 60's.
I have some anime in there(though they're all the mainstream ones) but since Wikipedia doesn't have a better list for these things, most of it is western(mostly american) animation. Plus, I don't really watch anime, so there's that too.
I would take suggestions for some more anime if you want. But please try not to go too obscure. I want them to be examples of the era.

I also think you give more western animation a chance. It may be a lot more kid-oriented because of that stigma we're still trying to get rid of, but that's not to say there aren't some works of art there. It least one in this list has to impress you:

Looney Tunes
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Animaniacs
Samurai Jack
The Simpsons
Batman: The Animated Series
Powerpuff Girls

Wow, 1990s got the majority of the vote. I voted for it yeah, but I thought everybody would vote for their own era. Maybe most people are born 1990s.

I just noticed the 2003 TMNT series isn't on there. That was actually far superior to the 80s toon (and I grew up with the 80s version).

Justice league Unlimited for 2000.

To me it's a toss up between 90 and 00, you had some good shows before then but most of the shows seemed to be Hanana Barbara copy and pasting the same few templates over hundreds of shows. Plus the 90s is the first time you had a number of shows that had something for adults(Johnny Bravo, South Park, Simpsons, and Batman) so a lot of the shows hold up better.

I know there are many good ones, but Tom and Jerry is still the only one i REALLY liked.
The simpsons was genial until the 8th or 9th season. After that it went down the toilet.

Cartoon network was nice, especially how the series all had some cross-over at some point (Aku destroyed the entire cartoon network world).

I'm not saying western animation isn't good, quite the contrary, but the ones i really enjoyed were oriental excluding tom and jerry.

There's no comparison for any of those cartoons with animes like: Great Teacher Onizuka, BDZ, Cowboy Bepop ect. ect.

I hope i made my point.
You have, thanks. Can't believe I forgot Cowboy Bebop.

First of all, thank you sooooo much for saying that. I so agree with you.

Second, I would but I'm trying to go with more recognizable shows and unfortunately, that show lives in the shadow of the much more popular 80's one.

Sorry Pokemon and Reboot... Gotta go with 2010.
Adventure time, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Phineas and Ferb, The Legend of Korra, and Gravity Falls are all to good.

I went with the 80's but not entirely based on the cartoons that were present. I said the 80s because it was the best decade for "Saturday morning cartoons". The Saturday 8-12 block started much earlier but it was the 80's where it basically became a staple. several channels chock full of kids entertainment for 4 hours. New cartoons being created all the time. The twilight of the Hanna Barbara look. Don Bluth animation. Anime starting to make its way into American culture. A lot of things happened.

Some notable ommisions from that decade:
Muppet Babies, Gummi Bears, Heathcliff, Galaxy Rangers, Carebears, Rainbow Bright, Robotech, Dragon's Lair, Star Blazers (technically 79) and a bunch I am sure I forgot.

Also a couple notable non cartoon kids shows that started in this era:
Saved by the Bell, Pee-Wees Playhouse

Of course, great older shows like Fat Albert, Superfriends, Bugs Bunny/Road Runner, and various iterations of Scooby Doo all played through this era as well.

Edit: Yes I am a child of the 80's so I am biased.

I watch cartoons in the 90's all the way to the 2000s.

That was really a great time if you were a fan of superheroes, and I thought at the tender age of 14 that Adult Swim had INVENTED comedy.... ahhh naive youth...

I will say, I am rather enjoying this generations cartoons though. Young Justice is pretty badass, and I'm finding Ultimate Spiderman has it's moments.

I can say enough praise for Adventure Time, though. It just hits that perfect tone of childhood, it's silly, the jokes are intelligent and sometimes dark... It's like the shit I used to make believe in my head at night before I went to sleep.
