Man, I wish there was a legal PC port for the first 6. Maybe I should just buy one of those consoles that plays both NES, SNES, & Genesis & go on a game shopping spree to relive old times.

Slightly off-topic... but if you want to play VI on PC without downloading an illegal ROM and plugging it into ZSNES or something... There are perfectly legal ways to emulate a PS1 out there (ePSXe works for me. Also my PS3), and Final Fantasy Anthology is a greatest hits title containing FFVI and FFV... it generally goes for just under $20 (here it is on amazon [http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-Anthology-VI-Playstation/dp/B00002R28C/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1342727646&sr=1-1&keywords=final+fantasy+VI] for ~$17, there are a few other places that sell it on google shopping, but no big name stores).

I'm going against the grain here, but...

I can understand the hate for it, I can understand it's flaws, but to me Final Fantasy VIII will always be my favourite.

I love the futuristic setting, it's characters, and it's battle system. Which added a unique spin on the tried and tested battle system of old.

Also, it's incredible music, which includes some of the best final fantasy songs ever created. Which even the most critical of Final Fantasy fans can't honestly deny with a straight face.

I have played nearly every single final fantasy (yes even VI, and IX), and I still think this one tops them all. It just connects with me on a personal level like no other Final Fantasy game ever has.

+FF6 is the only game where the bad guy actually destroys the world.
+Kefka is par-none the best villain I've encountered in any video game.
+Plenty of characters and builds per character add a massive amount of replayability.
+Excellent story that pushes you and the characters to resist the Empire.
