I have to say mortal kombat, it (despite the lack of blood) stayed truest the game it was based on. Plus, I doubt the halo movie will ever get made.

One more thing,

Silent Hill was a pretty good horror movie, I thought (at least until they started explaining stuff about the town, its people and its history); I've never played any of the games, but judging from the screenshots and trailers I've seen it was a pretty accurate representation of the Silent Hill atmosphere.

As for the list provided, I voted Resident Evil. While it wasn't anything like the games (I'd have personally preferred to see someone attempt, once and for all, to make a coherent storyline for the constantly-retconned games), it wasn't a terrible movie in its own right, and managed to get the claustrophobia and jump-scares from the games pretty much spot on.

I think the main problem with game-to-movie translations, though, is how completely differently stories need to be told for the two mediums. Even in a game like Half Life 2, where there are no cutscenes, the structure is very much divided into "event" bits (set-pieces) and "story" bits, and those sections very rarely overlap. In a (good) film, the story and the events are presented together.

Silent Hill was Silent Hill I thought, it had the right pacing, mood and horror elements that are a staple of the series. As an adaption of a horror game, I found really nothing wrong with it.

Mortal Kombat (the first film) I thought was well done as well, I love the fact that Anderson made it similar to Enter the Dragon (which was one of the inspirations for the game along with Bloodsport). The casting I thought was pretty good and the fight with Reptile was purely awesome.

Besides these two films, nothing else has really caught my attention. I did enjoy the first Resident Evil film, but it wasn't as good as the movies I mentioned just before, in my opinion.

Obviously Minesweeper [http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1770138] but the poll seems to be lacking the greatest game based film of all time.
