I personally think San Andreas was the better game due to it having alot more open space and was alot longer and more colorful (I'm not gay) then GTA 4.

Hey, calm down. Don't expect a reply right away even though there are some people online.

Due to the fact that i've only played San Andreas and 4, i'd have to say SA because it's a bit more crazy (dildo in the police showers anyone?)

I loved the variety of San Andreas and I have no idea why they took that out of GTA 4, but I love Niko as a main character so much that he puts GTA 4 over the top.

GTA 4 wins for Niko and the play between him and the other characters (Roman especially). Niko wasn't a completely random psycho like the guy in GTA3 or Vice City. Roman and the other sidekicks weren't as annoying as CJ's brother or Smoke. I actually liked most of Niko's friends.

The only weakness for GTA 4, as everyone mentions, is it's not as big as SA and there's not as much shit to do. The quality of the main game makes up for this in spades.

This was a toss-up for me between GTA4 and Vice City (I hated San Andreas). I'm leaning towards GTA4 for the bigger world, better characters and improvements in gameplay. Vice City wins points in the fun and music selection categories.

If by "bigger world" you mean "vast tracts of worthless, open space that are a complete waste of time and effort" then you're absolutely correct.

I'm totally confused here.. San andreas colourfull?? It was the most dull gray/brown colour scheme to be used in any of the games. You're not thinking about Vice city are you? I never liked San Andreas. When I was flying over Area 51 with a jetpack trying to steal a UFO or something, the series game completely died for me.

EDIT: Oh yeah.. this too:

GTA countryside is a mighty dumb idea

To me it comes down to either vice city or 4. The reason i loved ice city is because I loved the atmosphere. It felt good driving around, and i knew the city pretty much in and out at the time i had finished it. I even continued to play with it after i completed the main storyline, driving around listening to the talkradio. I haven't completed 4 yet, so I can't really say yet. It's a lot different, so the comparison isn't gonna be easy. I like 4 because of the characters, the soundtrack (Best ever) and the more realistic look. Time will tell if I'll still hang around Liberty city after i'm done, but I'm guessing 4 is going to be my favorite. Too early to say though.

No GTA:London? That's my fave mainly because of nostalgia, but GTA IV wins because it really took the franchise to a new level.

Yeah, I'm a Canadian, so I've grown to love lots of useless space. "Hey, what's that? It's 300kms of nothing!"

I don't see how people can vote anything but GTA4?! Every time I play it I have a huge grin on my face. Everything is much more beefier. Ramming a car into a person or wall actually feels painfull and capping people in the lags as they run has never been more fun. The rest were mostly a yawn a minute in my eyes (except for GTA2).

They all have their charms, but the story, game engine, and multiplayer in IV makes for the best overall experience in my opinion. Vice City comes a close second, though, if only for the setting.

I'm with Rain here, GTA4 is simply the best. An engaging story, hugely detailed game world and atmosphere coming out of your eyeballs. Plus it's got a combat system that doesn't suck balls.

I've only seen a few minutes of GTA IV, so all I really know is that it's pretty, and has some cool details. Popping tyres from burnouts, going flying out of your car in a crash with no belt, hotwiring cars...the level of detail seems pretty impressive.

Out of the rest, it's without doubt GTA: SA for me. I for one really liked the stats system (why does everyone hate it so much?), and turf control was just awesome. As always I hated the flying missions, but parachute use, the ability to swim for a change, the girlfriends, the clothing customisations, car customisations, and a number of other steps forward definitely won me over. Even the ridiculously large maps adding an interesting element of required travel, making things far more realistic. Annoying at times, yes; but an interesting addition no doubt.

Out of those who have played GTA IV, does anyone else get quite disturbed gunning down randoms now? In the older games I had no problem just running rampant with a sniper rifle for a few hours. Now, they look too real - I was watching a friend play and I was actually cringing as he shot pedestrians. And yet slicing throats in Assassin's Creed was just fine with me....
