When I think of the old school rpgs CT and XG come to my mind.

CT-This game had so many endings and did the whole time travel thing right. You had some epic music and combos with the members of your team. I mean I still recall this combo throwing his sword in the air and landing down on the mob and frog casting lighting on the sword to amp the damage. It was ahead of its time.

XG-Anime style drama with mechs and a fun fighting system all around with a kicking adult theme added with it.I skipped out on a few days of school just to master this game.

Yes I know alot of great rps in its time.

Breath of Fire
secret of mana and all that jazz but this is the battle vs them two.

Should have voted played chrono but not xeno :p

If you never played xenogears you are missing out on epicness as well.

I wanted to play xenosaga for a while, but i havent, and i dont know if it's just because i like simpler turn based combat, but i didnt like chrono trigger. you should put some more options in the poll, though.

Chrono Trigger will always hold a special place in my heart for it. One of THE RPG's, and one that just did everything right.

Baldur's Gate 2 is hands down the best RPG of all time. Nothing else can even come close, even today let alone back in 2000 when it was released.

I would have to say ChronoTrigger...

Though Final Fantasy IV (released as Final Fantasy II in the American market) was the first test case of RPGs for the Super Nintendo, and its historical importance cannot be overlooked.

BTW,

Was Chrono Trigger actually released in US on time? I remember I had never heard of the game until much later.

Was released a little after FF3(6) I believe.

Well, you can tell in the animation (2D to 3D) that there had been some improvements---I always thought CT came before 6, or am I wrong?

If we're talking about the 90's I would actually go with Final Fantasy 7. I like Chrono Trigger a lot, but I could never find the drive to finish it, unlike FF7.

and if all time, I say Mass Effect.
