Poll: Bg2. best rpg ever?

Well theres a reviewer that i agree with. He seems to have valid points to his article. Well really what i find what keeps bg2 a bit back is the dated grafics and clunky UI. I preffered IWD 2, but still agree due to scale that bg2 is better.

Now question is do you think he's right?

Icewind Dale was truly amazing but I believe bgs is still an amazing rpg. Look at the other rpgs of the time. Dated graphics and clunky UI were a little behind at the time but I think it definitely makes up for it.

Again...I feel the need to re-iterate: If the title of 'best' could somehow be awarded in any meaningful way, that honor would go to Planescape Torment.

But to be honest, this is not that world (though I still think the above about Torment :3) However, the article provided in the OP is a mite too little heavy on the hyperbole. Baldur's Gate 2 -is- a great game. It's is, I believe also a better experience over all than the examples provided. Also, the ending comparison to FFX, seriously? Final Fantasy 10 wasn't exactly a great RPG, but isn't that kind of like comparing a run-down church to the Sistine Chapel? Not that I'm comparing BG2 to the Sistine Chapel, just making a poor analogy.

BG2 was great, it had so much going for it, and it showed the perfect balance of free will, story and good writing. For its time it was sensational, even today it is a good game definatley.

Planescape is better because its mechanics and puzzles aren't so straight forward. The way this dude boasts about Balder's Gate's dungeons Planescape does in a more interesting and original manner and not so straight forward. It is practically impossible to mimic it without it being obvious. The story is so unique you won't play anything like it probably.

SMT makes for amazing rpg's, on that matter aren't all SMT's games rpg's?
but yea persona 3 FES is by far the greatest rpg ever created, and i still follow the FF series!

Well to me Planescape Torment was better, so was Bloodlines, and Arcanum, and Fallout 1 and 2, and, you will hate me for this KotOR 1 and 2. It's still 8th best cRPG in my opinion.

I found the IWD games funner to play, but that doesn't make them better RPGs. BG and BG2 are superior RPGs. It's one of those weird logical pitfalls.

on the whole? I'd still say no, but I'm not exactly sure what would be better. I just know its not the BEST.
