Bioshock, by miles.

Towards the middle of HL2, I just stopped giving a damn about the story, because I was becoming utterly and completely fed up with the "mystery" of it.

Bioshock on the other hand was one of those games that kept your face pressed to the TV, if only to see the next scene.

Half Life 2, for two reasons:
1. It was 2 AM, and I was on my first playthrough. While I was in Ravenholm and the first fast zombie in the game was up searching on a roof ahead of me, for whatever reason I thought it was an ally asnd I was finally out of that place. Jumped out of my chair.
2. I played it on a PC, while I was used to Gamecube games, and it felt like the smoothest thing I'd ever played.

I would have thought the results would be leaning even more in HL's favour here, but I knew it would be winning one way or another.

And so it should.

This is the Sophie's Choice of versus threads. I voted HL2 simply due to longevity. I'll now have to pray to the altar of Rapture for forgiveness.

I didn't have to shoot endless headcrabs in Bioshock, and i there was some RPG-like customization, to me, that is two big wins over Half Life.

half-life 2 easy. bioshock was ok (its atmospheric and aesthetically pleasant) but aiming/combat is clunky and the plasmids werent all that interesting. The plot twist people loved was kind of 'so?' to me. I liked HL2's story, its characters, and the controls are nice and tight for multi. Also, you just get that tingly 'thats awesome' feeling. think stepping into the suit in HL2 or the 'extract' plot in the middle of ep.2. ravenholm scared me too.

I personally vote Bioshock. Half Life is pretty good, but I think it's showing it's relative age AND they have drawn it out far too long already.

Bioshock basically featured a good story with a beginning, middle, and end. Half Life seems like it would be impossible to ever wrap up properly in a way that would make all the fans happy.

bioshock, as playing through half life two i realised it was among the most deppressing games ever. for me anyway, that game made gears of war look like an f+++ing rainbow
Its not depressing, its atmospheric. The bit with the bridge makes my spine tingle every time.

Bioshock, definitely. I like that it has more horror elements than Half-Life 2, and you get supernatural abilities (from Plasmids) in Bioshock that you simply don't have access to in Half-Life 2. Plus a sequel's coming out, sooner than Half Life 2 Episode 3.

Half-Life 2 was good, but BioShock just seems more fun to me. If Freeman started throwing lightning and fire, I may reconsider.

Art, personality, charm, mystery, intrigue, originality, brilliant acting, brilliant writing and brilliant gameplay help make Bioshock the obvious winner. For it's ambiance, creep factor and amazingly authentic themes.

Well to me Bioshock sucked(Just my opinion) and Half-Life 2 is the best singleplayer FPS ever.
The story, the gameplay, evrything is great about it except for the lack of new weapons/enemies in the episodes.
I didn't like Bioshock that much because the combat was clunky and the story wasn't that intresting to me.

Wow, all this praise for Bioshock and HL2 is still leading the poll. Guess the numbers speak for themselves.

HL2 All the way!

To be very honest; Bioshock.

Very Solid environments, storyline and immersion, that isn't to say half-life 2 doesn't have these things, it's a great put-together, but Bioshock has an aestic value of a life-sized gold statue of jesus christ, playing a guitar solo.
