I know i gonna get lots of brick for this, but when i was able to buy all the Vigors upgrades as well as all the upgrades for my shotgun and Sniper rifle (my two main weapons) and not buy anything from the dollar bill vending machine iam not sure that i play the right Mode, is not that hard like Ken Levine promise. I think the main reason for this is you trip over ammo, money, and medkits everywhere you go and the checkpoint doing too well. Maybe super 1999 mode for the next Patch Ken Levine ? (Patch not the the DLC 4A Games)

I agree completely.

I was expecting it to be a ridiculously hard mode, but I actually found it easier than hard mode. I suspect that originally they had a plan to have more features (he mentioned something about decisions being final before the game was released) but when it came closer to the time it wouldn't have worked with the final product.

As far as I am aware the only difference between hard mode and 1999 is that you lose more money from dying, and if you run out then you lose. As I had beaten hard mode already I already knew what to do with 1999 and was just more careful spending cash.

Not that it bothers me particularly, as I didn't get the game for the challenge, but it'd have been nice for it to have lived up to the hype.

I believe you still take more damage and enemies can take more, though there isn't a huge difference compared to hard mode. The amount of checkpoints have also been reduced, there is no guide system, and you can't change the difficulty.

While still harder than hard mode, 1999 mode wasn't really that difficult by the time I got to it. I started on normal mode, then hard mode, and now I'm almost done with, 1999 mode. Maybe if I went from normal to 1999 mode it would have been much harder because of the difficulty spike.

I did hard mode first, then 1999 mode. I found it easier I guess because I invested in the right stuff:

Murder of Crows
Devil's Kiss
Carbines
Shotguns
Bucking Bronco
Max Shields
Max Salts

I put anything else spare into other stuff.

Beat it more easily than Hard, but that's thanks to being more familiar with the game mechanics.

You can't call a game with regenerative shields hardcore, not to mention if you give us "brief" invulnerability skills/items.

BioShock prides itself as a thinking man's FPS, but when you think a little, you break the game. Min-maxing comes to us as easily as taking breath. :D

Actually when Ken Levine announced the 1999 mode, iam realy exciting because system shock 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I like it because is realy hard, it's the kind of game you have to plan how to play from the start, search the internet for the best build or asking your friends how to pass this level, and if you not do that, the game will rape you realy hard at some point and you have to replay the game. I know the game is for everyone but if you made one special mode for the hardcore gamer then make it realy hard and you have to smash your head to the wall to win the game.
