Black Mesa. Great living conditions, get to hang with Gordon Freeman, but the biggest factor is that thanks to some graphs seen in Portal, we know that Black Mesa has a far larger budget than Aperture Science. As a would-be scientist, that is crucial.

Actually, the resonsance cascade happended because of Gordan Freeman, so If you would have worked before the cascade there would be no Freeman.

However, I would work for Aperature. Nicer and cleaner and enviroment than Black Mesa.
Woah, woah, woah. Hold on a second here. I was under the impression that Gordan Freeman was working at Black Mesa for a while before the events in Half-Life. I mean, all the other scientists seemed to know him pretty well, he had good security clearance, and it seemed that he had mastered the HEV Suit all before we started the game.

Regardless, my opinion still stands firm. Black Mesa all the way!

Now this man is making a lot of sense. Is it too late for me to change my vote?

It just occurred to me; the Black Mesa Incident (BMI. Hey, wait a second) is why cooler than the Aperture Science Incident (ASI). While both created a hero, only the BMI had consequences for someone beyond that hero. Also, it created a hero who, while he uses some new-fangled tech, only needs a crowbar, while the hero from the ASI needs a one-of-a-kind portal gun to stand a chance.
But who'd you rather sleep with, huh, huh?
Gordon, hands down! I saw the Portal chick. I'd go Gordan, then Alyx...

Damn nerdy fantasies.

Well it's hard to say. The big thing about Portal is that we don't know the full story and given the way Valve writes we may never learn it.

One of the reasons why the song "Still Alive" is so famous is because it acts as an epilogue to the game. Given some of the things GlaDOS says there, it makes you wonder how far gone she really was, and it makes it apparent that she is still conducting experiments and is apparently working towards some higher goal, perhaps "blowing a cog" having been intentional so to speak. Her actions both before and after the morality chip not seeming
all that differant since she tries to kill "you" even with it.

I'm sort of suspecting that everything, including the final battle, was part of that final experiment. GlaDOS is working for someone, presumably Apeture (perhaps remotely) and that cleansing the building and waiting however much time passed was all part of some greater plan. It's also hinted in the song that there are other experimental test subjects.

*THAT* said (I'm not a huge expert) I'd say that Black Mesa wins. Simply because Black Mesa generally does not kill their own people intentionally, which really, in the overall context of the story (including the "Still alive" song) seems to be what happened.

While it plays havoc with some revelations I was actually sort of wondering briefly if given the way the world looked in Portal if perhaps the whole bit with "we're releasing on time" might also imply that after the major catastrophe (invasion) Aperture/GlaDOS is trying to bring some of earth's best toys into play in retaliation. In the final equasion a very nasty device in the hands of what is now a very skilled user has made it into the outside world.

The point is that there are just so many ways you can read into it.

Your odds of living seem to be better with Black Mesa though. :p

I think I'll pick aperture just to stay the fuck away from the G-man.

"You who's that guy who walks around with the briefcase? He's always...watching...."

Aperature Science any day. They have state-of-the-art robot that sings beautiful songs (imo) and they promised CAKE! HAHA WEE CAKE!

(Also, anyone notice that in the elevator the word Aperature with half the logo next to it makes it sound like "caperature" when pronounced. See, they even have the guts to announce their true intentions about everything!)

Did Black Mesa create a portal gun? I didn't think so.
Or a weighted companion cube?
Or the 1500 megawatt Aperture Science Heavy Duty Super-colliding Super-button? Nope.

Look at us, still posting when there's science to do. We've experiments to run, and there's research to be done!
We can keep on posting 'till we run out of cake, trust me, GLaDOS is fine with it. Of course, if Aperture science starts losing this poll, she'll release the deadly neurotoxin and take away our cake. Aperture ftw!

Black Mesa.

I see it as Gordon versus Chell...
You may have a portal gun but he has the Zero-Point Energy Field Manipulator...and a crowbar.

Also, G Man had nothing to do with Aperture Science, and I love G Man.

It's like voting Orange vs. Blue.
Both are highly advanced, have robots, cool technology, are inept relative to the OSHA, very rich, neurotic in a surreal kind of way and have large amounts of gun-age in science locales.
So basically they're the same and you're voting on visual style: industrial and orange vs. aesthetic and clinic white w/ blue.

I'd rather die from the deadly toxin then be eaten by a headcrab so aperture gets my vote

Yes! Black Mesa is making a comeback! Aperture has taken the lead, and hasn't let go since, though. Who will come out on top? The suspense is killing me!

Chel is still pretty cute though... And can you imagine the possibilities with having a portal gun? Now THAT's nerdy fantasies.

Theuromancer, when you really think about it, we don't KNOW that Aperture science really killed anyone, or if they really tried killing Chell, as you said. We also don't know who she is. She could be a serial killer for all we know, used as a test subject instead of getting the death penalty. As you say, GlaDOS "destruction" could very well have been intentional. Bring you daughter to work day could be a really nice way of getting everyone safe, the gas could have been knockout gas, and then they store everone in the same way they stored Chell, making sure that there are people left in the world, and that they're safe from the Combine.

We also know that, unlike Black Mesa, Aperture doesn't have a boss working for the invaders. And we have cake. I mean, cake, how can you compete with that? And Portal guns. And lots of people. And clean rooms. And leg thingies.

We DO know that Black Mesa fucked the world up though. That's major negative points. And they had a bloody mute do it too. At least Chell has a voice, even if she doesn't have anyone to talk to.
