Greetings, my friends. Today, I'll be asking you a question of much importance to me.

Ahem. Alright, I'm usually not the one to ask questions like this on the Escapist, for I usually think that having other people make the choice for you is weird at best... But I can't choose.

I am an established Call Of Duty fan, and, as such, Black Ops is a first day purchase for me. But I have no fucking clue which version to choose. And this is where I want to hear your advice.

There is the PC version. It's with dedicated servers (which I don't really care for), all of my friends will definitely be playing there and it uses Steam. However, with my computer being not too powerful and really crash-happy, I'll have to play on pretty low settings. And even if I don't, I caught myself thinking the other day that playing Call Of Duty with a keyboard and a mouse is much less enjoyable for me then on console.

There is also the 360 version. It costs a lot more, no dedicated servers and none of my friends have one, yet I'm sure I'll be having fun.

And this is the choice I can't make. So... uhm... what do you think, Escapist?

Wait until it's been proven that it's worth £40 first. And I'm betting it will not.

If you really, really want it, but don't want to pay full price, then the PC version from a website in about 6-9 months time.

Xbox 360 version. The price isn't massively higher, just the standard price for console games. And it's no fun playing with bad graphics and crashing if you get the PC version.

That will be my choice anyway.

I don't care for the full price. I want another Call Of Duty, a lot. I don't mind paying for this one game.

Where's the PS3 love?

I'd say get the 360 version, since your PC isn't bleeding edge, online PC play success is actually highly dependant on the power your rig is pulling.

People blame it on HAXX and Lag, part of the reason is a shitty rig, its why I don't play multiplayer on PC's anymore, I'm sick of having to upgrade just be competitive at Unreal....

Holy shit Unreal?, what is this?, 2003?

If your PC truly isn't up to the task, then I suggest getting it on 360. Playing on low settings on a crash-prone PC just won't be near as fun, not to mention that you noted that it wouldn't feel the same as playing it on a console.

I thought the same, but then I realised that he probably excluded it because he doesn't own one, in which case, getting the PS3 option would be an... interesting choice.

I say 360. I just prefer FPSs and racing games on consoles, especially if your PC isn't great.

I do, I just like the Xbox controls for shooters more.

PS3 is better at other things - racers, sports games and stuff.

I prefer the controls for the 360 shooters. No offense to the PS3, it's better at other things.
Well it would be, the 360 controller had about 50 million dollars thrown at it and it was designed with shooters in mind.

The PS3 controller is an artifact from the PS1 days and it was designed to be of optimum use with fighting games, as such the PS3 is pretty good for fighting games but the 360 pad gives you cramp when try to do a hadoken.

Still I love my DualShock.

Don't know where it came from, but I'll try it...

1. Buy 360 version.
2. Invite friends over.
3. ???????
4. Profit

Ah well, if it was me I'd get the PS3 version. But it isn't, so get the 360 one. I love CoD when collapsed on a sofa, which you can't really do with your PC.

If your computer can't handle it without crashing, go with 360. I don't know if you can play in low settings for PC. It wouldn't bother me, but crashing would.

You've got to think about wether you'd rather play a game with random people, or attempt to play with your friends, if your PC will even let you.

Friends don't have consoles = No profit.

For me, they're both pretty much in the same place (I have a laptop).

There is a PS3 version of this game there jim.

But to the point [I assume that you have a PC and Xbox, so a PS3 version doesn't matter to you] if you had a better PC I'd say go that route. As it appears you are not into shelling loads of cash into better components to your PC, just stick with the 360 version as you'll NEVER have trouble finding a game on there.

If you're playing it to play with friends and most of them are getting it on PC via Steam, then I suggest that.

What I meant was to physically invite your friends over to play on your 360, if that makes sense.

Oh... Well, I don't have multiple controllers, so that won't work.
