This post is not completely related to the Game itself, but the pricing of the game in Australia.

As many Australians know, and some informed Non-Australians alike, currently we Australians are paying up to $90USD ($100AUD) for a game that retails at $49-$59USD in the United States and United Kingdom.

Before the Economic Crisis/Boom for Australian Resources market The Australian Dollar was buying around 60-70 UScents, but now it is buying 80-90 UScents, Logic would state goods imported into australian dollars, in this case games, would have dropped in price, but they didnt , the price in Australia stayed constant, so we are paying More USD for games than non Australian Residents are across the world.

Being the Rough n Tough Aussies we are, at a retail level we have taken it on the chin, and on a digital download perspective we have started to utilise Digital distribution networks such as steam and D2D and even started importing Games from the US and other countries alike. (as even with postage on importing we can save up to $30USD sometimes)

But to our suprise even digital distribution networks such as steam have started to jack prices up for the Australian version of Steam.

For Example Metro 2033 is $49.99 USD on the US Steam store, But on the Australian Steam store it is $79.99USD (yes we Australians have to pay in USD on Steam)

Now i know its not steam directly at vault, its the Publishers that ask the price to be jacked up, ironically in most cases the games that are jacked up are published by 2Kgames, to which are partly developed in 2k's Australian Studio.

But the Bastion of Light in all this mess has been blizzard, keeping thier Australian and US prices the same in USD.

But with the Release of Starcraft 2 blizzard have establised a Oceanic Server base for battlenet, based in Singapore. which has subsequently allowed blizzard to set up thier own seperate store on battlenet for Oceanic users, this is where blizzard have shat upon Australian and New Zealanders.

The Digital Price for SC2 on the US region Store is $59.99 USD
The Digital Price for SC2 on the Oceanic Region is $89.99 AUD ($80 USD)

Now can anyone see the differnce here?
$80USD-$59.99 USD is $20.01 USD lets just say $20 USD for easier reference.

Thats Right We have to pay $20 USD more. for SC2 than everyone else.

Now i know people are gonna say, its only $69AUD in shops right now! and people are gonna say but currency fluctuates! and oh but they have to cover costs etc etc!

The Arguement of Currency fluctuation is kinda invalid as the Amount has remained constant for almsot 2 years now.

but on a matter of Principle and Equality dont you think this is unfair?

Also my respect for Blizzard has decreased slightly. and as you can tell im a bit pissed with the prices.

I'm fairly certain that Blizzard has nothing to do with the high prices.

Dude usually I'm all there with you, FUCK the disparity between US EU and AU prices...
BUT in this case you can get SC2 from JB for $50 tonight at the sale, so usually I agree, but how long does it usually take for a Ps3 game to be half price? alot more then 2 days :p

Doesn't that extra money go towards the eradication of those mutantly-huge spiders, arachnids so big they have health bars?

Yeah, I agree that the pricing is bullshit. If you have to pay in USD, then the price should be equivalent....it makes no sense. Exchange between currencies, yes, but if you pay in the same currency as I do, then wtf?

Pretty sure as well that blizzard didn't just decide "hey guys, lets charge the aussies a ton more and then point and laugh". It is probably due to localized taxes and the like. Perhaps a sort of leisure tax, which we see on some things in Canada, or perhaps a tax that funds the department that keeps certain games from your country. That would be ironic.

Total bullshit is what that is. Fuck the companies and screwing a certain population. We had a tad bit of that in Canada a few years ago, when our dollar hit parity with the USD and games were still consistently $10 more in stores. That's been fixed, and they should fix that for Australia as well.

I agree, Australian prices have been bullshit for a long time and I shouldn't look at a new release game going for $80 (like with MW2) and consider it a bargain. To be fair though prices have gone down about 20 bucks in recent years, you wouldn't see many new releases for $120. This is probably because of more competition between stores, but we still pay a ridiculous amount.

If you convert the AUS dollar to US dollar and account for shipping you'll pay less than if you bought the game at a store and seeing as how new games are shipped as a large group rather than individually, shipping would cost less. Someone is making a tidy little profit from this, the bastards.

I really hate how they keep doing this. We don't have an R18+ rating, and we have to pay more than most. And for those who are quoting Yahtzee, I honestly think that if you quote him in an internet forum, I doubt that you really go outside, yet alone the beach.

I'm fairly sure it's not to do with any kind of tax or surcharge like that, since (at least on steam) until several months ago we were getting the same prices as Americans in US dollars... then the exact same games raised in price 20-40 USD over the course of a couple weeks, and all new games listed were at what appears to be the new standard, aka the inflated price.
If we were getting charged more because of a tax or some such, then we would never have had them at a lower rate through digital distribution.

All new release games are $120NZD in New Zealand :(.

With Modern Warfare 2 selling for $120NZD as well, even after more than half a year since it's release. http://www.ebgames.co.nz/pc/product.cfm?id=14072&refer=productsearch

And $135 on consoles :O. Not saying MW2 is a good/bad game :D.

New Zealander's have seen to have had it slightly worse off than aussys though. With an exception in the case of rugby.

we had a similar problem with things in Canada as well

our Suggested Retail Price is based on some silly "average exchange rate"... and for a short while, the canadian dollar was above parity. So it was worth more, but we were paying higher prices regardless: conversations would usually go like this:

"Ok, that'll be 35 dollars"
"Why? It's retail price here says 30 US"
"Well, we're in Canada."
"Yeah, but my 35 Canadian is worth like 40 US"
"Thems the breaks."
"Ok, I'll pay in US then."
"I'm sorry, we don't take american currency."

*rage*

It ran a similar way it did in Canada here a while back. Basically, not that fun to pay $10 more for no reason.

the man you most likely need to talk to is bobby kotick, not blizzard.

He's been the one behind pretty much every single bad decision they've ever made since they've been together.
