=/ I finally realised a couple years back that paying over $75 for a game is a waste of money, I agree in Australia they are charging us mint for games sometimes years old =/

$49-$59USD in the United States and United Kingdom.
We use Stirling. Not dollars. Converted it's about £31-40. Over here that's expected for any new game.

It's actually not Blizzard's fault. It's the retailers. They are quite literally allowed to charge whatever they want for games and we're so acclimitized to it that we just suck it up like the compliant little sheep we are. Even digital distributors (like Steam) can't do anything about it- if they try and sell the games for a more reasonable price, the retailers will complain that the digital distributors are undercutting their sales and will threaten the publishers with the threat of refusing to stock the games, forcing the publishers to make the digital distributors artificially raise the price.

Yes, it sucks. Yes, we are being blatantly ripped off and we have been for decades. No, there is nothing we can do about it except import games. No, it will never change. We are literally powerless in the face of their endless greed.

Well. Sorry?

If you don't like it, start a rebellion, or move. According to Yahtzee it's been that way for a while, and I don't see it changin.

Blizzard doesn't set the price for their games anymore, they became so big they had to hire a publisher to deal with the sheer volume of their sales. Sadly that publisher was Activision so the prices are now a bit higher (has to be when you have multiple companies handling stuff) but the prices in Australia are not Blizzard's prices, they're probably not even activisions, they're most likely the retailers and governments prices.

I mean, Blizzard even set up a subscription for Russian players since their average income is so much lower. Even with the subscription, they still get the game much cheaper than anywhere else so they are definitely not a company who wants to alienate their players. Starcraft is distributed very differently in every continent because they adapt to their player needs. They're probably the last big corp who actually care about people playing their games more than making money from them (but only a little bit)

I'd point the finger less at them and more at your government's retail laws.

Total bullshit is what that is. Fuck the companies and screwing a certain population. We had a tad bit of that in Canada a few years ago, when our dollar hit parity with the USD and games were still consistently $10 more in stores. That's been fixed, and they should fix that for Australia as well.
Don't forget the 1400/1600 MS point bullshit. That is still going on.

I'm from the EU, and I totally feel your pain. Not too long ago, the Euro was almost 50% stronger than the dollar, yet no difference in pricing.
I will rage if the Euro drops below the Dollar and the prices rise here because our valuta is then worth less.

I didnt hear about that one what is it?

Blizzard and every other company does it. Its just they being complete dicks trying to make an extra buck on the exchange rate. It used to be big in canada in the automobile industry, up untill about 5 years ago a car in canada was $5000-$10000 more after you took the exchange rate into consideration, even when they were build here.
Canadians pay 20 bucks for a 1400 card while US pays 20 for 1600. That difference can mean having to buy 2 cards instead of just the one.

It is not just Australia.

I live in Iceland and when I loged onto Battle.net to buy the digital version, Blizzard wanted me to pay 30% more for just living in Iceland. About USD 78 $.

Why? I do not know. I belive it has something to do with the Euro. But since neither Iceland or the US use the Euro I fail to see what it has to do with anything. I usually order games from the UK, and they use the pound sterling there so again, not the euro.

In short, I am not buying StarCraft 2 anytime soon. I refuse to pay 30% more just for living where I do.

I don't care. Here in NZ, it ranges from 96 to 130. I got 120.

So quit your whining. NZ have it worse. I've learnt to get over it. I understand what you mean but its the taxes. Can't change that. It isn't Blizzard's fault.

yeah thats what i meant, i knew you guys used sterling as im from England myself :p

what i meant was the price comparison, UK pays Similar rate based on Currency Conversion. where as We in Australia seem to be paying extra on top of Conversion Rate

I'm fairly certain that Blizzard has nothing to do with the high prices.
What even on thier own Digital store?

Dude usually I'm all there with you, FUCK the disparity between US EU and AU prices...
BUT in this case you can get SC2 from JB for $50 tonight at the sale, so usually I agree, but how long does it usually take for a Ps3 game to be half price? alot more then 2 days :p
yeah i know, im picking it up cheap at retail too, but i just wanted to rant about my feelings towards ripping us Aussies off =D

I did read it. It seemed your argument was based upon Australia and Australia only. No mention of NZ at all except the title.
