The Iliad and the Odyssey. It's perfect. They're the definition of epic. Plenty of boss fights all ready to go too.
I've only read the Odyssey, but I really can't think of any suitable boss fights. You could make the end fight with the suitors one, but otherwise, Odysseus outsmarts everybody, be it Polyphemus or Circe.

I suppose you could have Hector as a boss, fighting as Ajax.

I want an open world, Elder Scrolls style game based on Wheel of Time. Something set completely outside of the books` time line so that it can have an original story. With the well established magic and combat systems a huge, open, third-person game would be epic.
The fall of Malkier! It could make a legendary game, great setting, characters, story, a bittersweet ending.

I think I actually had a dream about this! Though afterwards it switched to something about John Carter's marketing and I woke up screaming and covered in sweat :)

I would love to see the White Wolf RPG Exalted turned into a video game with a blend of God of War and Dynasty Warriors combat set in an Elder Scrolls sized world (albeit much larger). That would be a game I'd be happy to sink the rest of my life into.

Scylla could make for a good boss. Her tentacles would eat a crewmate if you didn't kill them in time. And you would be nearly deaf between the wax in your ears and Odysseus yelling at the top of his lungs, so you'd have to be on guard in all directions at all times. At the end, you can get an achievement or something for saving so many crewmates or for losing exactly six crewmates.

Huh. I wanna play that now.

OT: I'd like to see a game made out of Foundation. It'd be like Mass Effect, except with Foundation and you don't kill people very often. Also there'd be a big epic space battle fight between the Imperial Remnant and the Merchant Princes.

It's video games. You'd be stabbing cyclops in eyes, wrestling charybdis, smacking sirens around. They'd only hold true to the poem in that the characters are there, then they'd have you stab em.
edit- that's it Scylla. I don't know who charybdis is now
another edit- ok, Charybdis was there too, but Scylla was the one with the tentacles. Yeah, you could fight em both

Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Cowboys, parallel worlds, New York City, dystopian post-nuclear wastelands, riddling, monsters, magic, and lots of guns. I would cream my pants if they did it, and did it right.

I'd like to see Double Dead by Chuck Wendig. It's about a fucking vampire trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. Either that, or something Lovecraft based. Preferably by Frictional Games. Yeah.

Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson.

There you have super high speed mafia pizza delivery, samurai sword fights, solving mysteries, a virtual reality internet you can manipulate through hacking, gang shootouts and real world mental reprogramming on the fly.

The setting is incredibly cool, and most of its high notes are easily imaginable as game mechanics.

Why hasn't anyone done this yet?

While these would be really cool to see, they would devolve into the same crap as God of War or Dantes Inferno where they just destroy the lore and subject material.

Most of the popular book series have already been heavily mined by the video game industry, but there are a few places I could see where they haven't reached their full potential.

2. HOGWARTS. Some kind of quality RPG that let you play your own multi-year adventure as a wizard at Hogwarts, completely distinct from the events of the Potter novels.
Most definitely, While I absolutely love the Harry Potter series no-one wants to play a game that is basically a movie tie in version. While some have actually been pretty decent the whole selling point is the world building, and mysterious nature of Hogwarts etc. Give me an open world/RPG where I can have my own character explore hogwarts or make it an MMO where one faction is death eaters and the other is Aurors or whatever, have both factions have the same starting location at hogwarts.

Books I'd like to become games-

-Larklight- the book is a SteamPunk/Victorian space Pirate fantasy adventure- Beautiful Illustrations

-Necropolis- Not a great book put the premise is cool, Corpses are rising from their graves and are aging backwards. A cop who was killed with his wife, starts looking into it finds more, and its set in a futuristic noir, deco setting. THe corpses returning all like to assimilate back to fashion styles and cultural norms associated when they died.

-A Map of Time- Victorian time travel book, really sad but lots of really interesting story telling. I really want a nice beautiful victorian game that isn't shoot/stab every person you meet.

Looks at bookshelf, wait....what the hell, Why do we not have an open world game for -V for Vendetta- What kind of gross oversight has occurred with in the development community that has led to me not having an Assassins Creed/ Just Cause game reskinned as V For Vendetta

I think Deltora Quest would make an awesome fantasy-adventure game. I know a DS game was released in Japan, but only in Japan. Come on Japan, let us have nice things.

Can I have a comic as one of my choices?

Because I'd totally go for King City.

This huge, weird city with gangs of aliens, demons, cyborgs and super heroes, where everyone is the hero (Or King) of their own story, and where people use psychic animals as weapons. You create an awesome looking character (another King for the city) and choose your class. Your class being whichever animal you fight with.

In King City you only see people fight with two kinds of animals. The hero and a few other people use cats, which basically seem to be all round brawling weapons, and one guy and his clone use little mini elephants as sniper rifles. There could be plenty of other animals, such as dogs being tanks or something.

Then you get to free roam around the city, doing side missions for gangs, vandalizing billboards with moustaches (which is a job in King City), and fighting evil.

Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash: Play as the far-too-awesome-than-anyone-has-a-right-to-be Hiro Protagonist, and team up with Y.T. and Da5id to protect the TRON-like Metaverse from correspondingly cool bad guys.

EDIT: Damn, beaten to the punch 3 posts ago. Ah well, the point still stands.

I'm gonna be "that guy" and say the first 3 books of the Horus Heresy as an action RPG.

Just playing through the exterminatus of Istvan would be worth the price of admission.
But, if it's only the first 3 books, then we wouldn't get to play the Dropsite Massacre! Or the Burning of Prospero. Or the Battle of Calth. Or The Signus campaign. Or the 2 dozen other awesome battles that take place in the series.

Basically what I'm saying is what we need is the entire Horus Heresy in videogame format. Because it would be the greatest goddamn thing.

Captcha; Hooray Henry

Actually Captcha, it's the Horus Heresy...

Id love a good RPG or RTS around Wheel of Time, Night angel Trilogy would make a stealth game i would actually try to play stealthy(versus my brawling mace weilding Ezio ,or my psychopathic Corvo).
Came here specifically to say Wheel of Time and Night Angel. According to wikipedia Obsidion is supposed to have a WoT game in development, but I've never seen anything about it anywhere else.

Lord of the Rings

So much great material to use. Lotr has a couple good games at best, they can do way better.
This is the only Game of Thrones game that anyone will ever need.
I've been toying with the idea of getting that game. Is it any good?

You might want to try the Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings II, and Lego Lord of the Rings (don't let the name put you off, how many games let you explore Middle-Earth as Tom Bombadil?) respectively.
There's a pretty good GoT mod for Mount & Blade Warband too, it's called Clash of Kings.
I worked my way up as a mercenary for Riverrun, then I declared war on the Iron Islands, took one of their castles and made my own faction. Married Great Jon Umber's granddaughter to secure an alliance with the North and now I'm defending against the Lannisters and the Ironborn with the North and Riverlands on my side :D

1. TOTAL WAR: WESTEROS. Yes, we have a mod, but a proper game with proper implementation of all the differing elements would, I feel, be an almost guaranteed hit, especially if they beefed up the politics/lineage side of things.

2. HOGWARTS. Some kind of quality RPG that let you play your own multi-year adventure as a wizard at Hogwarts, completely distinct from the events of the Potter novels.

3. DRESDEN FILES. A serial adventure game released in episodes, with survival horror/classic adventure style game play.
These three are the most brilliant ideas ever. Seriously. Someone needs to make these games NOW.
