Poll: Books Vs. e-books

I use both, when I'm at home- it's a hard copy of a book. Away from home I use my Kindle. And because I scan and convert all my books so I can use them on my kindle, my collection is the same on both. And I typically read a different book at home than I do on my kindle, so I can keep track of the progress of both fairly easily.

Honestly, I do prefer the feel of a book to the kindle. The big but of it however, it that dragging along 4-5+ books (I am an extremely voracious reader) it a pain when I'm travelling around, so the kindle is a big plus.

i gotta say i like havin' a normal book in my hands rather than a kindle. sure there are cool but it takes me a while to read a book since i like to take stuff in and if i get confused about something it's alot easier to flick back a few pages. also it handy for if a friend says something stupid and you have something hard to hit them with that won't shatter.

I prefer an actual Book, just like if I get a game I prefer to actually buy it instead of downloading it. I like having the physical copy. Also, much less strain on the eyes.

Physical books for me dont know why but I despise reading lengthy literature on a screen also I use computers a lot during the day so it is nice to just give my eyes a rest and read from paper now and again.
That being said I dont own a kindle or any such device so my perspective is not exactly balanced they certainly have their benefits but I dont think I will ever prefer them to the non digital versions.

A BOOK!! I love the smell, I love the feel, I love the texture of each crisp page as I turn to read. I Love to look at the Author's Signature and illustrations that such a wonderfully bound block of papers and text withholds.

Call me old fashioned if you will, but I in no way see a use for an E-book other than the convenience for space. I have an entire library in my room and I refuse to change!
Secondly books are alot more sturdy than a Kindle, plus I'm just not comfortable with having a book that relies on electric power. It seems unnecessary.

But then again someone will find a way to argue against me so to this I say

I like the feeling and smell of paper too much so while I can, I'm postponing the purchase of an e-reader. That and my books fill space on my bookshelves.

I jut got an E-book. And with star bucks down the street all the ease of gettiing a new book is great. Not to mention the cheapness. I got H.P Lovecraft collection for a buck. For me holding a book open is kinda hard.

Books are better, but e-books have the advantage that people on the train cant see what your reading. Unless they sit behind you and read the reflection like I do sometimes.

books are so much nicer, i like having something tangible in my fingers. Besides, theres something stunning about reading a first edition copy of Tale of Two Cities, or Moby Dick. Theres almost an aire of magic around them that no ebook can ever match.

I don't have anything to read e-books on, but I don't want one either. The idea of having a book on an electronic device, it just doesn't sit right in my mind. I much prefer the idea of reading a paper-back copy (Hard-backs are too chunky for my little hands) of the book, it just feels right.

Besides, the cost takes some time to balance out and i cant really afford it atm.

If I HAD to choose - Books. Readers give me a headache after a while.

However, I personally prefer BOTH.

Books for casual pleasure reading, particularly in the bath tub or in bed.

E-Books for when I want to look up info or search quickly. Also nice for when I can't (or don't want to) carry a lot of books with me.

It's gotta be books, all the way. I have nothing against e-books and I know they're better for travelers. I couldn't possibly lug all of the adventures of Rincewind on a carry-on bag. I prefer books though because I hate spending money on intangible things. When I drop some cash I want something to show for it and I love flipping through the pages of an actual book.

Your poll should be worded as "What do you like best?", as I honestly like all those things (even as an English student, sometimes TV is just a fantastic brain switch-off).

Being rather invested in the traditional RPG-hobby (you know, pen, paper and dice kind). I find that when it comes to rulebooks and supplements to an RPG, actual books work the best during play (it's more of a hassle to bring a laptop and try to check rules and stats in the middle of a game than it is to just flip open an actual book).

However, e-books in a .pdf format are useful for when writing scenarios on a computer, because it's easier to cross-reference in-game lore and rules while already sitting in front of a pc or laptop. It also helps that you can have one or two actual books open at the same time along witha pdf-file on the computer if needed.

I think this is the main reason why RPG-developers and publishers will never truly have their sales hurt by pirated copies of their books. Almost every person involved in this hobby are rather fond of actual books, and trying to play a roleplaying game using a laptop would really break the flow of the game as opposed to using actual books (and I doubt you'd save that much money by printing a pirated copy of a book that's often more than 200-300 pages long).

I like books, the physical kind really. I like the feel of them, especially if they're leather bound, turning the pages, and that new book smell!

I've tried an e-reader, and they just don't do it for me. I don't like the fact that I have to worry about an internet connection, or wifi for that matter, if I want to download something and charging the damn thing.

Besides, I feel that my Shakespeare collection will weep bitterly and deeply if I came home with an e-reader.

I am very much of the old guard when it comes to reading.
To me, reading a book is a much more tactile and enjoyable experience. Hell books even smell good.

E-books are nice and convenient, but I only download them as a backup. Nothing like the smell and feel of a book you love.
