I love boss fights, in just about every genre too. I honestly don't care if they're too easy, too hard, or not creative. I just like how climactic boss fights feel.

The No More Heroes series has some of the best bosses around. A man that shoots lazers out of his crotch, and a football player that has a giant robot, are pure awesome. And, all of these bossess fit in, with some pretty campy dialogue and appearances. All of the fights are actually pretty good too. On the flipside, what annoys me is that in some RPGs, the game throws a sudden final boss that you have never seen or heard of before to fight. So.... what about that one guy I just spent hours upon hours to take down, only to fight some nameless and worthless final boss? WTF

I've seen some amazing boss battles.

I would love to see bosses done right in FPS games for once.
Metroid prime does a decent job. But usually FPS bosses just fail epicly.

It's been said a dozen times already but generally speaking boss battles in action-oriented non-FPS games are good, great or amazing even (if made properly) but in some genres they're just not really a good idea or any fun, especially if not done well.

I will say I very rarely see a boss fight done right in an FPS. They're usually either circle-strafe to kill, or just plain random shoot-fest. The one I've seen recently that is actually kind of well-built is the Patriarch from Killing Floor. He really forces your team to gang up on him, and is a threat both at close and long range. He signals his attacks, letting you get behind something in time. Best part is, to keep it from dragging you down quickly without chance for regroup, if you deal enough damage he'll go away for a while to heal. Interesting mechanic that lets the boss fight stay a decent length (he can only heal 3 times) without pressuring you through it the whole way (you can reload your guns, heal teammates while he sends weak, easily-dispatched monsters)

Boss Fights should be exciting and challenging, if they aren't the developers made it wrong.

The laziest "boss fights" I hate are the ones that are as follows:

"You know those cannon fodder generic foot soldiers you've been killing for the last hour? Well now there's a room with like a HUNDRED of them in there, beat that!"

Clever guys, clever...

I don't know why, but never in my life have I been very fond of boss fights. The majority of the time, there's some sort of gimmick behind taking them down that has nothing to do with the players skills in a game.

But everybody's entitled to their own opinion, right?

"If done right, boss fights are good."
Fixed. "OK" doesn't cut it.

Bioshock? Big Daddies are more boss-like than the actual bosses.

God of War/Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry (mostly DMC3)/Metal Gear Solid. Fucking epic.

i'm all for boss fights, long as there done right as in games like Shadow of the Colossus, Devil May Cry ( pretty much all cept 2, but it sucked all over anyway >.> ) Metroid Prime and God of War ( an i'm not even a fan of the seires) all pretty much play as 'this is how you do boss fights'

RPG's >.> boss fights tend to boil down to a lot of the same issue FPS bosses have, IE spam ( attack/weapon) till it dies, side bosses usualy put up a better fight and require some planning, but not the main story ones most the time.

DarkSiders has MASSIVE difacultly issues with The Black Thrones boss, Straga being the easyest and most BOREING boss ever, with The Griever coming in a close second, while the other bosses, still piss easy where still kinda fun. Uriel (2nd time) was the closest to a real boss the whole game.
