I will be picking up the old republic tomorrow since i just finished my last paper for this semester(yeah me).
and i already decided i will start by playing a non-lightsaber class for the sith, know virtually nothing about the game and was wondering what other who already played the would have to say about those classes.

oh, so far in MMOs i preferred playing as ranged DDs and/or healer

Well, both Bounty Hunters and Agents have sub classes that allow both, with the Mercenary specialization for the bounty hunter which does DPS and heals, albeit more geared towards to damage, or the operative spec for Agents which allows heals and damage alongside stealth. The agent also has the option of choosing the sniper spec which allows for pure dps and a 5 meter range increase. Really it comes down to this; Do you want to be a DPS class first, with some healing thrown in? If so go Bounty Hunter and select the mercenary spec when you get off the first world around 10. However, if you like being stealthy with heals, while also dealing some decent damage, go Agent and select Operative upon getting offworld. (I myself have a merc as my main and currently love my role as a battlemedic of sorts :p)

Play both, its not too hard to level up in TOR, think WoW during Burning Crusade where 1-50/60 were really easy with 50/60-70 being a good deal harder.

Though really you should play all classes 1-16 to get an idea of which storyline you want to finish first, of the two the Imperial Agent is by far my favorite. For the Agent the Sniper is a whole lot more powerful, being nearly unstoppable in PvP if played right, but can tend towards slower gameplay as it is highly cover based.

Do you prefer easy to play classes, or more complex/fussy classes?

i always preferred classes more complex than just spamming one button/makro, keeping up a perfect rotation was half the fun in wow

and you, kind ser make the mercenary sound exactly like the kind of thing i would like since i am not a huge fan of stealth. ever.

Then whatever you do, don't spec Arsenal. If you go Merc, you're pretty much going to be stuck as Bodyguard, since Pyrotech is really a lot more at home in the Powertech tree.

If you want to be DPS, I recommend going Agent instead. Sniper. No stealth required.

You asked for:

RANGED DD or HEALER
No Stealth!
No 1 button class!

Here are your spec options:

BOUNTY HUNTER: POWERTECH

Shield Tech - Tank. So this is out.
Advanced Prototype - Melee DPS. Not ranged. So this is out.
Pyrotech - Blend of Melee and range DPS, but primarily melee. So this is out.

BOUNTY HUNTER: MERCENARY

Pyrotech - Mid range mobile DPS. Possible, but a lackluster tree that has poor synergy with Mercs and is more at home with Powertechs. So this SHOULD be out.
Arsenal - The ultimate 1 button class. Spam tracer missile all day. This is out.
Bodyguard - Healer. This should be okay.

IMPERIAL AGENT: OPERATIVE

Medicine - Healer. This is okay.
Concealment - Stealth. This is out.
Lethality - Mid range tree. Not really ideal as you asked for range. Lots of 10m in here. This is more or less out.

IMPERIAL AGENT: SNIPER

Marksmanship - Fussy cover mechanic, but does huge long range DPS. This is in!
Engineering - See Marksmanship.
Lethality - Not sure how Lethality works for Snipers, to be honest.

So.

You said you were interested in Mercenary, but NOT interested in a one button class. That leaves Arsenal out, it's a one button class. Pyrotech is VERY lackluster on Mercenaries. That leaves Bodyguard. Thus, I recommended that if you wanted to DPS, you should go Sniper.

Does that help?

the "thank you" was actually straight up honest since back then was the last time i was really excited for a game and it didn't disappoint, damn written language that doesn't make it clear when stuff is being ironic and when not.
thanks for the summery, this helped a lot.
i will be running around with the "this game will be great" feeling for the next 24 hours.
