Today, to celebrate that I can have breakfast after my 2-day yesterday (Just recently started the 5-2 diet with my mom), I had some impossibly delicious Japanese-style hotcakes for breakfast.
I just had the pancakes, not the syrup, powdered sugar or the cream.
(And before anyone nags me, I know that you have to watch what you eat even during the days when you don't diet, but I eat this kind of pancake extremely rarely)

Anyway, that made me think about breakfasts overall.
And so I ask: Do you prefer to have something sweet or something savory in the morning? As a plus, post a recipe of your preferred cooked breakfast, if you'd like.

I guess I don't really have a preference, personally. While I do have a bit of a sweet tooth, I'm rarely hungry enough in the mornings to care too much about what's for breakfast. I usually just have a small cheese sandwich and a cup of tea, as bored of it as I can be sometimes.
Sometimes, we have some toast and homemade marmalade.

Easy-Peasy Marmalade
1. Simply take as much pectin-infused sugar as you have fruit or berries. (So if you have 100 g of fruit, you should add 100 grams of sugar) If the fruit you're using is sweet enough, or you just prefer something less sweet, you can use half the amount of sugar.
If pectin-infused sugar is not avaliable (I don't know how hard it is to come by outside of Sweden), add some regular pectin. Follow the directions on the package. <3

2. Put the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer while stirring it for about 5-10 minutes, or until it thickens. Remove any foam you see.

3. Transfer to a clean jar and let it cool. Store it in the fridge.

4. Ta-da! Done! Enjoy your marmalade on scones, toast or whatever you fancy.

So, your turn: Sweet or savory breakfast?

I voted savory, but the correct answer would be both. No breakfast is complete without a breakfast meat AND eggs AND something like pancakes or cereal.

Maybe it is because I eat like a pig but... I love a full breakfast with meat and starch and a fruit and some milk.

I usually just have porridge or plain cereal like Bran Flakes or Weetabix.

On rare occasions, I'll have boiled eggs and toast or maybe some bacon if I'm going out for breakfast.

Gosh, I sound so boring, don't I?

Anyway, short answer, I don't really have a sweet tooth so I'll always pick savoury.

Haha, not more boring than me, I think. That's more variety than I usually have. XD

I also think that porridge and Bran Flakes are quite tasty.

I had an omelet for breakfast today so I voted Savoury. But on normal days when I don't have vacation I just eat bread with peanut butter.

Savory I guess my normal breakfast is boiled egg whites, a biscuit, some fruit , and maybe some sausage or bacon depending on my mood.

Pretty much my everyday start is porridge with golden syrup and a banana smoothie. When I actually have time to cook, I like pancakes topped with fresh fruit, maple syrup and whipped cream.

That being said, an ideal breakfast for me consists of everything from museli to bacon and scrambled eggs to waffles finished off with a strong black coffee.

My metabolism, you da real mvp!

It's refreshing to wake up to delicious smoked meat and some nice buttered bread, so I lean towards the savory. Still, most of the time I only have cereal so whatevs. I can always bake some bacon later in the day and have pancakes for dinner. Not a fan of eggs, though, unless they're just coated in cheddar cheese. Anything too sweet early in the day sort of sets me off of lunch, though. I like breakfast to be subdued or savory.

Well I prefer savory - full English breakfast is the best meal ever, but I rarely ever actually eat that. I usually just have cereal...children's cereal... like Coco Pops... or chocolate shreddies...ok, so I haven't really grown up in the breakfast department.

What does an english muffin count as? Because that. I mean, it's carbohydrates, so I guess it could be "sweet" if you turn your head and squint hard....

Why does your poll list pancakes as sweet?
Good pancakes go with bacon and eggs as a savory breakfast.

Everyone loves a good full English, which I guess would count as savoury. Sadly, however, having a full English everyday would probably lead to my early grave (not that the rest of my diet doesn't), so my typical breakfast consists of a combination (see: mushed together) of shredded wheat, a banana and a small yogurt pot. So, I guess my answer would be both?

Uh, I usually have sweet toppings on my pancakes. And American-style pancakes are pretty sweet as they are. That's why, really.

But having eaten pancakes with sour cream and ham before, as well as made some in the oven with bacon, I guess they could count as a savory meal too.

errrr...

Last week:

-Banana
-Tim's Oreo donut (note to fellow Canucks: not worth $1.5)
-cereal
-Tim's Maple biscuit with sausage
-dim sum
-leftover grill steak
-leftover chicken wings
-3 Kiwifruits

So yes, my breakfast is all over the place.

Where'd you get that notion?
Pancakes: Eggs, milk, flour, salt, butter.
None of those ingredients are sweet.
Also; American Style? What other styles are there?

Earl Grey + cereal or something else that's sweet, pancakes, etc.

Can't abide a savoury start to a day, leaves little to be desired for lunch :p

I don't generally eat breakfast, but if I do it will be savory. Some toast with cheese can be nice for an energy boost when I need it

Depends on what's available. If I have cereal then I will eat cereal; failing that I will have toast; failing that I will have some piece of fruit or a carrot; failing that I will consider my life choices leading up to this moment as I buy a sandwich from the supermarket.

On an unrelated note: Oh my god those pancakes look so amazing.

It depends on what day of the week it is, and/or if I am working. If I am working, then I will have porridge with almond milk and toast with almond butter, but on a weekend, I will lean towards the savoury option, usually grilled bacon and scrambled eggs. My family joke that I am a "part time paleo" as I am using the Nom nom paleo cookbook that a friend gave me as a present to get meal ideas. The only time I tend not to use a recipe from the book are mornings when I am working because I usually can't be bothered with anything too taxing beyond porridge and toast.
