I went to go back to play it back before it was permanently shut down and erased from my machine and I sort of miss it.

I think that may be a sort of playing with a kids toy when they aren't using it and then they miss it sort of thing. I want to play it, I don't know why, but I won't pay for it right now even if it is cheap mainly because I am hoping to get some sort of Id Bethesda pack at xmas with skyrim and the last of the new vegas dlc thrown in.

I hope they sell the rights over to Bethesda and they turn it into the new fallout. A sort of farcry 2 esk romp with much better features and better leveling.

Hell It could be the ultimate reverse Shadowrun, Starting off as a shitty class based multiplayer bot based shooter, and ending up an epic beloved RPG classic.

It was pretty good. I'd not buy it for more than $10.00 though.

I'm not a huge shooter fan and it didn't blow my mind. To be fair, it was fun but I don't have money to throw at games which aren't fucking amazing.

It was not amazing, let alone fucking amazing.

It didn't feel like an objective shooter to me. It felt more like " kill the enemy medics and move on" and with the maps that I played having only 2 main objectives it just didnt work for me. I think MAG did a hell of a better job...just wish they had plans for it to be released on PC

I bought the game when it came out, I thought it was fun. Being a PC gamer, I'm more accustomed to team based games.
This is what my character looks like

I generally played as an operative. Operatives are the most difficult class to play in my opinion, but done well you can be very beneficial to your team.

I picked up Brink about 3 days after release. Tried and tried and tried and tried to play it and enjoy it for a week. I ended up returning it after my 7 day "rental" period was up. I put it in the same category as Too Human, Too Worlds and AvP as one of the worst games I've played in the last few years, it saddens me to say that but it is true.

Where they went wrong? Multiplayer only game for $60, while you got TF2 for free... this is madness!

Add a proper single player to explore the world you were teasing us with and then we can start talking.
And some character diversity wouldn't be bad, you got to have more then one guy who can do character models, go completely crazy and even add the most exotic of creatures, a girl.

My first thoughts? "Lol, desperate revival attempt." My second thoughts? "Hey, that was pretty accurate. Now I have the picture of an entire marketing department running around in circles with everything on fire trying desperately how to get their investment back."

All multiplayer shooters feel dealbreakingly samey to me, and while I definitely respect that there are opinions quite to the opposite of that, being able to play Brink free for a weekend isn't going to interest me so much as a complete change in the game.

I happen to agree, but I bought the game since it has hardened greatly since its release. The 100000000 bugs that used to be there are gone, mostly. They've done some balancing and the gameplay has become quite solid. I also happen to be a huge fan of their mission system (which reminds me of Age of Chivalry the most).

Don't get me wrong. I agree with your griefs, and definitely wouldn't have bought the game under normal circumstances, but then again my circumstances aren't normal. As it stands, I have 7+ good friends who actively play it, have play-tested it personally due to the free trial (and enjoyed it), and have a sale going on for an asking price of SOMETHING REASONABLE. Its golden to me (and I half expect to be for me alone).

I installed the free trial version, moved to click play, stopped, and decided to delete local content. Why? It wasn't because I've heard bad things about the game, but because I just didn't think I'd play it. I didn't want to get hooked on a game, buy it on sale, then get bored of it by the end of the week. It's more a genre-breaker for me; I'm just not into online-focused shooters. If I can't even stick with Team Fortress 2 for very long, why would I stick with Brink? I'd rather save my money for something I'd enjoy a lot more, like preordering Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

After rewatching the ZP review of Brink I think I found why the game failed like shadowrun did.

They tried to inject a beefy story into light fare gameplay.

When you play Team fortress 2 (take a shot) there is not deeper meaning, its red versus blue, they don't like eachother go kill the other guys and get their intel.

This game tries to cram a big end of the world fight for your side and accomplish some big political agenda for your people. Stop the missiles from going off, free your comrades blah blah blah. and then it becomes, raise that bridge, guard a box for 10 minutes. yawwn.

strip it down and make that into an actual game and its all good, but when the missions are just bot matches it is just stupid.
