I am really exited about brink coming out. It looks fantastic but one thing that they have recently announced is that it will only feature 16 players at any one time. I feel this could be a problem beacuse it isn't alot but if the maps are the correct size it would probubly be better as it would keep the action moving.

What is your opinion on the player cap and do you feel that with battlefield and the like having 32 odd players has disadvantaged the online experiance.

Totally depends. I don't know how big the maps are so there's no point in saying if it's too many or few people. Battlefield had huge maps so many people wasn't a problem. CoD has smaller maps so 12 people was more than enough sometimes. I'm also really excited about this game and hope they don't fuck anything up.

Aw, I think there should be as many as possible to be honest, aslong as there are maps and gameplay that fit the numbers. I for one will always keep the 150 vs 150 matches on Mount and Blade in good memory.

Still totaly buying the game though.

They need to strike a balance between map size and players in the map, after all, I don't want to spend 5 minutes looking for something to shoot at.

16 is enough in my opinion, my personal problem with games that have more than 16 or so players at a time on a map is that you pretty much have to make a large map where a good chunk of it ends up being rather bland/copy pasted with just a middle set piece and 2 starting bases. Whereas with smaller maps you usually get more variety, and the added bonus of not having to traverse long stretches of terrain to find an enemy. Seriously if there is a multiplayer game and I don't get into combat 30-45 seconds when I'm actively searching for it because I'm legging it across a map I usually stop playing that game.

Depends on how big the maps are and how the multiplayer modes vary, dont forget this isnt a multiplayer youd have found on COD or Bad Company 2, its incorporated into the game a different way so yeah.
I think the multiplayer looks great and 16 players sounds about right for the more team/squad based tactics people will have to use.

That is true hopefully there will be a more squad based element to play. I wish we had that in cod but it was more or less run in and kill.

Well from the sounds of it it will be harder to go all 'lone wolf' and still be successful, so hopefully it will be more team based. That could really stop it from feeling a little dead on larger maps.

The lone wolf thing is somewhat of a concern. Will we have lots of spys going around together in a group beacuse that could be very cool.

To be honest I find underpopulated maps to be much less of an annoyance than overpopulated ones.

Well it looks like the majority of people feel that this is a good number. I do however remember playing tf2 on team forts with a stalemate that lasted a good half hour. Maby this will avoid that.

One of my favourite maps in F.E.A.R. Multiplayer was a laboratory level with a ladder and a big long ramp that went around a corner, this was a very small map. It was so frantic that the players were turning around as they spawned to make sure nobody spawned behind them and shot them in the back.
The other levels were not really anything like this, but when I wanted to really test my reflexes, I would look for that map in the server list with low respawn time and higher than recommended player cap for that level. This is one of those few times in gaming that had my heart actually start racing. So you can see why underpopulation is annoying to me personally.
But it all boils down to the fact that I would rather fight two guys who just came around a corner, than one guy with his back to me, sitting in that one spot that I know snipers like because I haven't fought someone for a couple of minutes.
Like I said, they just need to strike a balance in the game between the size of the maps and the amount of players playing in those maps.

For Brink? I don't know, I'd say 16-20 is probably best.

But for multiplayer in general, I love lots of people. Not on small maps, that's a nightmare. Leads to grenade spamming and shit like that.

But for big maps, lots of people, I like it.

Like in Battlefield 2142, with 64 player servers, I felt like I was part of a large scale conflict. Good stuff.

I LOVE Battlefield's gargantuan war zones, filled with entire platoons of Real people inching towards heavily fortified locations under heavy fire, as the roar of Tank turrets, and the echoing screams of dogfighting Fighters Jets fill the air.

It's about as immersive as a wargame will ever get in my opinion.

It's all about map size and layout. If the maps are designed with 8v8 in mind then that number should be perfect. Although I've been anxiously waiting for this game for about 4 months now so my opinion may be biased by wanting it to be good.

Me being all about stealth, relocation, moving like the water etc etc, I could not be happier that it's not going to be just a rush fest clusterfuck.

More good news from Splash Damage, didn't know this until you posted.
Nothing kills a game more than a cluster. Unless its a cluster bomb in that case its awesome.

Yeah that sounds good. Especially since most competitive shooters are either 1v1 or 5v5, the big servers are only for the nooby pub stars :p

Though having not played it yet, I can't really judge yet, but I trust the developers decision to do this wasn't without thought.
