Love it or hate it, you have to admit it blew up in a demographic that I'm sure the producers are surprised at. Lots of folks have made a pretty penny behind this fandom as well, one going so far as to have his fanfiction published physically, if I remember right. As far as clopping goes, better to get off that easy one to pixels as opposed to gettiong off that easy one in.. well, you know where I'm going with that. Beside, medically speaking, that's kinda astounding.
Essentially, the people that make money off of this sort of thing have learned how to appeal to closet furries without actually insinuating that they're furries, thereby avoiding the negative stigma associated with that particular subculture.
Unfortunately, the avenue they're using to appeal to these generally twentysomething guys is through a cheery little cartoon aimed at little girls, which has all sorts of unpleasant connotations of its own.
