that's just her being cocky, it's not the same. Vanity is like, going out of your way to maintain an appearance. rarity is the type of girl who only cares about her appearance. and that's what i hate. I've always hated people who have to make sure their hair is a certain way, or girls who have to make sure their make up is on right. hell, i gag when i see a girl wear make up, period.

Rarity doesn't only care about her appearance; it isn't even what she cares about most. Remember when she dipped her entire head in the trash just to provide an excuse for why she was busy? I don't think I'd be willing to go that far to plan a surprise party. Or when she spent all that time working herself to the bone to make dresses for her friends to the point that she couldn't even finish her own? And of course in the second episode she sacrificed her entire tail for some random dragon she'd never even met before. If she wants herself to look good, it's only what she wants for everyone.

Not that I understand what's wrong about wanting to look good in the first place. If someone wants to devote a bit of extra time to their hair, is it any less productive than spending that time surfing the internet or any other leisure activity?

that's all true. but, remember when she has a breakdown after she made a few bad dresses? or when she made rainbow dash have her own breakdown when she started showing off the wings twilight gave her? or perhaps in the season 2 premiere, when she turned faster than any of the other ponies.

Rarity seems to constantly be changing from a positive character, to an absolute ***** every other episode.

Rarity seems to constantly be changing from a positive character, to an absolute ***** every other episode.

All the ponies' breakdowns were over silly things; the last episode is a good example of that. And I'd say that botching a chance to impress an influential potential customer is a much better reason than most. Dash's breakdown was more over her own insecurities about the flying competition and it was just that Rarity wasn't helping.

I don't know that it's fair to judge how quickly the ponies' minds turned in S2E1 simply because it's clear from Fluttershy that the game is over the moment Discord uses his powers and everything else is just for show.

All the ponies have on and off days; none of them are perfect. It's those flaws that make them more realistic characters.
