So which of the three original Pokemon starters is the best? Which dominates the other two and why? You must take into account factors such as appearance, level of awesomeness, what strategy would be used for it to beat the other two in a fight, stats and anything else you consider relevant.

My personal vote is Squirtle, looks cute then evolves into a badass giant living tank. It can learn plenty of water moves to take down charmander and can learn ice beam to deal with bulbasaur, I'm pretty sure its stats give it a faster speed than bulbasaur too, so it can ice beam it to death before poor bulbasaur gets a turn.

If you're including evolutions, then Squirtle is the choice, but for just the starting starters, then Bulbasaur is the unquestionable winner

I want to say that charmander evolves into the best charzard, while my personal favorite is Squritle. Freckin love that turtle.

If I'm playing seriously and not just for giggles, I take Squirtle. Why?

That's why.

I say Squirtle. I don't rememeber the stats exactly but didn't Blastoise had a better overall stats compared to the other two (I'm not 100% sure)?
Beside Venusaur and Charizard has more weakness due the two being dual types while Blastoise is just plain olde water type.

Charmander. Why? He evolves into a freaking dragon, thats why. And he's the only starter thats ever been able to fly. Owned.

The fire types tend to be more astheticly pleasing anyway.

Squirtle:
He's cute
Evolution somehow grants him cannons which is badass
Plus waters types are generally more useful i find

While Squirtle does look like the best, I chose Bulbasaur and dominated with it when it became a Venusaur. How you ask? With the sleep powder + solar beam combo. Even with a Venusaur at a lower level than Blue/Gary's Charizard, the sleep powder + solar beam combo would devastate the elementally stronger Pokemon. True, a blizzard or ice beam can knock out a Venusaur but my strategy has served me well.

Charizard can learn fly in Yellow Version.

Your argument is invalid.

Besides, you get all three in Yellow.

Charmander, though not for any aesthetic reason. If you look at every single pokemon game in existence, fire types are pretty hard to come by. Good fire types are even fewer still, especially if you don't care to use legendaries.

Meanwhile, grass and water types are only slightly less common than actual grass and water. It just make sense to take the fire type.

Ofc Squirtle wins.
LIST!
1. Cutest.
2. Surf on a permanent party member = win.
3. Turtles are awesome.
4. High defence.
5. Works well against the Elite 4 (Unlike Charazard).
6. Can knock both a Venasaur and a Charazard out with supereffectives. (Ice - Water)
7. BEEFCAKE!!!

Squirtle, he can take hits, as access to Water moves for Charmander and ice type attacks for Bulbasuar. Just an all round great Pokemon.

Also looks mean nothing to me, it's what the Pokemon can do that matters.

Just throwing this in here but my other gen starter choices are.

Gen 2: Totodile
Gen 3: Mudkip
Gen 4: Piplup
Gen 5: Oshawott

Why yes I do love water types.

After being a HUGE pokemon fan in my younger days and going to extreme measures to watch the tv show and movies, charizard definitely because he beat team rocket like a boss! Squirtle is awesome because he evolves into a giant turtle with flipping artillery on his back but Bulbasaur was definitely the most useful. Excellent Special attack with sleep was unstoppable, as close to uberness as Roseraid in comparison to grass pokemon. Damn, I miss my roseraid while playing pokemon white! sleep coupled with 1 shotting 3 pokemon before going confused was overpowered.

It's a toss up between Squirtle and Charmander for me. They and their evolutions look brilliant and they both have their own advantages as well. Charizard can learn Fly, the only starter to be able to do so, the Squirtle tree can learn Ice Beam to take down grass types, one of their weaknesses.

Bulbasaur all the way, because he would be the best one to actually own as it evolved.

Think about it: When Blastiose starts to sprout cannons, either the government is going to seal them off, or you are going to spend your days scrubbing moss out from those dark, moist tubes.

Charizard? He is a giant dragon that is perpetually on fire! Tell me that won't cause problems with the neighbours.

But Venasaur and his younger brethern? They're essentially just plants with feet, hanging out in the backyard, absorbing the sun, tickling you with their vines... A good pet.
