I'm from Texas. I was wondering how many escapists have been to a legit rodeo. So have you? Do you want to go?

What was your experience like? would you go again?

Personally I enjoy bareback bronco riding the most.

I know I will probably get flamed for this but just my two cents.
I despise bull riding, it's a barbaric cruel sport and I don't see how anyone can find it entertaining.

I'm pretty sure we don't have bull riding in The Netherlands and I've never seen it anywhere else either. I'm also fairly sure that I wouldn't really enjoy watching it. Somehow it doesn't seem that exciting to me (even though it is obviously dangerous), and I don't really like being in a crowd anyway.

Also, I'm kind of with Mazza35. So to anyone who does enjoy it: don't you think it is cruel to the animals?

Amen, my friend. I have never found anything like that entertaining, and it is cruel to the bull. I haven't heard of any down here in Australia, and I wouldn't want to go to one.

Animals are rough, watch how calves/ponies play with each other some time. It's not hugs and cuddles, it's ass kicking. Tough fun is still fun, it's like letting little boys play football. I do care a lot about how they are penned/treated when not in the ring but I really think you are overestimating how much throwing a cowboy hurts/scares a bull.

Also, if a bronco or bull is truly scared or in pain good luck even getting them into the chute. They're almost always calm until the gate opens. It's like horseracing, they are trained by repetition to know what's going on.

OT - Rodeo's are fun, not really my scene any longer but a good excuse to spend a day drinking beer and watching guys/gals injure themselves. Also, hot cowgirls.

I'm not big on the bull or bucking horse events as as it makes me anxious that rider or animal will be harmed. I do quite like the roping and barrel racing events.

Yes, but running really fast is different to trying to get some fuckwit of your back you don't want there. They don't look trained at all, just really fucking pissed off.
And when horses/bulls play around with each other, it's because they want to, not because YOU want some damned entertainment.

Never been to an actual rodeo. But I do like watching the PBR on TV (we started watching during the writer's strike, and now it has become semi-regular entertainment).

That. We despise the Spanish for bullfighting as well.

Also, it has quite some fatal accidents and most of the times, the bull is killed afterwards while the humans are real scum in this situation.

Have I been to a rodeo? Other, kind of...

My area Shrine has an annual rodeo where my father volunteers to work "security", basically doing whatever needs to be done. And, one night I joined him. So, basically I was to one side of the Port-O-Pottys, making sure that the audience kept away from trailers of the riders.

What do I think of rodeo? Boring. I most likely wouldn't have gone if I didn't know that the proceeds were going to the Shriner's Hospital.

As for bull riding itself, while I don't necessarily approve, I do find it incredibly more humane way to treat the animal than to severe its spinal cord, causing paralysis and then suffocate under its own bulk. Spain, I'm looking at you for this one.

Ah, you must know about that due to the extensive time you spent attending and participating in rodeo's? Look, I can tell you dislike "rednecks" and consider yourself an animal lover but you are truly talking out your ass on this.

The closest way to describe rodeo animal treatment is to say they are like pro athletes. They participate in the events, eat like kings and get retired so they can stud out a new generation.

It's also a practical skill application for the cowboys, an opporunity to show that if you were herding cattle or breaking a horse you would be capable of doing it. Yo see, for many participants it's more then just a sport.

Don't judge, you know nothing and you said so yourself.

Wow, not the responses I expected. I wonder if ya'll know the difference between bull riding and bull fighting. They're two entirely different things.
