Every button-up shirt I buy comes with spare buttons somewhere near the bottom in case you lose a button. It had never before occurred to me that it looks rather strange to walk around with these spare buttons on the bottom of your shirt. What do you guys do with these? Do you take them off and keep them in a safe place, or do you just leave them on and feel kind of awkward about them like me?

I keep them on the shirt. I actually had no idea what they were used for until this thread.

If its in a small bag, I take them off cause thats just dumb to walk around with a little bag and a button in it. BUt if its sewn on the shrit, I leave there. usually to screw with my friends and button it up wrong, then walk around. If they're wearing shirts like that and are blacked out, i'll button their shirts the wrong way.

Never noticed any. If there is some, then they're probably still on my shirts!

I've always assumed they are there in case you ever lose a button, so you'd have extras you could remove and sew in place of the missing ones. I generally ignore them.

I have a little canvas pouch in which I keep aaaaaaaall of those buttons, in case I ever lose one, so I can sew it back on.

Honestly before I lost all the weight I lost (about 120 lbs in about 2 years time) I hated those buttons cause they would usually get pressed up under a belt and dug into flesh. Honestly I never did anything about it because you never know when you will need that button.

Since then Ive lost weight and its less aggravation, and Ive learned you can go to most hobby/sewing stores and get like 1000 buttons for a dollar. Yet I still cant be bothered to mess with them.

I wear button up shirts every day, and I don't bother to take that extra button of. It's not visible, so why bother..

Mine are usually inside the shirt itself, on the little flap of cloth that says how to wash them. So I don't take them off. And otherwise, I don't either. And I don't tuck my shirt in; they're casual button up shirts. It doesn't look bad or anything.

All the shirts I have that include extra buttons do so on the inside of the bottom of the shirt. I leave them there just incase. I don't think I've had to replace a button on a shirt yet though as the shirt usually wears out first. I have had to sew new buttons on pants though. It's a handy skill to have.

Just stop wearing shirts. It will fix some of your old problems and replace them with exciting new ones!
