Neither, you wait for Modern Warfare 2 and then buy that. Buying either at this point is like going back and buying Gears of War 1 or Halo 2.

CoD4

CoD5 had:

Unbalanced guns
Horrible gun sounds
Tanks
Dogs
Dreadful spawn system

Call of Duty 4 remains my favorite game, while I sold World at War in about 2 months.

I hate them both. CoD4 just got boring after a few hours of play, this was with friends. CoD5 is the same as CoD4 but with a different skins. They didn't even make changes to the UAV animation. Recon planes didn't work like that back in the day. It took hours to get 'Up-to-date' birds eye view pictures so you wouldn't have got a live feed. That is just nit picking but you get the idea.

Hmmm I say it depends on what you get cheaper.

I remember World at War only cost me $37 brand new so it why I bought it. I say get both if one is cheap enough.

I say this: If you want a good story, with awesome game mechanics and an okay multiplayer then COD 4 is better. If you want a okay multiplayer with some awesome Nazi zombie action then World at War is much better.

Actually, you know what, the only reason why I have World at War is because of the Nazi Zombies

I'd say 4...a little while ago i would've said five (because it was newer) but now the only reason why i have five is to entertain people who come over with nazi zombies...4 has better story, mulitplayer, i've made tons of friends from it, and its modern so it just kicks more ass...definitly go with 4...

Just get Call of Duty 2, It's level design and missions are a hell of a more fun and less repetitive. And the D-day level in Call of Duty 2 is absolutely perfect. It may seem like it's linear (after all it's urging you to get to get to a certain point), but there are dozens of ways to get there, and on veteran difficulty it kind of makes you feel like a hopeless panicking soldier as tons of enemies are trying to kill you at once (this is a good thing).

i enjoyed both equally, i found the campaigns to be well thought out and highly involving, and the multiplayer to be quite intense and fun to play.

i actully couldnt pick a favourite, they are just too close in my estimations.

You'll notice the thread is actually about 8 months old...

It's just been necro'd for some reason, though I cant for the life of me think why.

I liked CoD5 better, but in terms of game play, Cod4 is superior...

The reason I liked 5 better was because of the setting, so the choice as I see it comes down to personal preference.
I agree with you. COD WAW had a superior atmosphere and story setting but COD MW had too much of a fantastic multiplayer.

However I dont really like either more than I liked COD 2 and 3.

CoD4 worked better as a multiplayer scenario than CoD5. And since multiplayer is the biggest part of the CoD games, then my choice is CoD4.

COD5 has much more downloadable content and of course,Nazi Zombies. Nazi Zombies should of been a separate game, after all it's the only reason I play COD5.
COD4's Multiplayer I prefer much more though, but gets less content.

Call of Duty 4.

Set in modern times with modern weapons (nice, refreshing change from the previous COD games), big variety in missions (assault, stealth, sniper, gunship missions), amazing gameplay, gripping story, perfect ending and Captain Price's moustache.

People go on about COD4 too much. Other decent FPSes just get overlooked - like Halo.

I agree with this guy. Don't just go for Call of Duty, shop around for some other FPS's. I'd reccomend Battlefield:Bad Company and The Orange Box. Bad Company is a great sandbox-esque modern setting FPS. It had better sounds, maps and weapons than Call of Duty(either of them). The only downsides you might find in the multiplayer are only two games modes(Gold Rush and Conquest) and vehicles(Although three of the five classes have weapons that can easily destroy a tank).
The Orange Box has Team Fortress 2, which is a fun cartoony FPS with relatively unique classes. The only downsides are a small player base(on console) and very few maps(on console).

CoD4 is obviously the superior game. But CoD5 is good also. But it does say something when the Call of Duty goes back to infinity ward to make the next installment for them for Modern Warfare 2. ( oh and officially it isnt cod6 or call of duty but whatever, who cares?)
