It's a love-hate relationship. I started playing with the first one, and I've liked the series up to World at War. United Offensive was the high point of the series in terms of gameplay. Base Assault on Foy was more fun than any other thing I've done playing the CoD series. World at War had the best campaign. Especially the Russian campaign. Zombies bored me. It still does.

It was a mistake to put it on the console. CoD4 attracted the very wrong crowd.

MW2 and Black Ops both have fun campaigns and good offline multiplayer. Spec Ops was a good idea. Their online multiplayer is terrible.

I'm hoping the new blood working on MW3 will inject some new life into the series. Otherwise, it's becoming a lost cause to me. It's a shame because I really loved the early games.

I play it, and it's fun in doses.

However, I don't consider it to be a great game.

It seems to me that a lot of people today choose to play, watch, read, listen to and eat only what they like the most, and in the case of eating that often turns out to be hamburgers and fries.

I like fries too, but I rarely eat them, because it's not good for my body, nor anybody else's.

The same appears to be true for the remaining points.

Also, this will likely cause many to name me an "elitist", but what those people fail to understand is that elitism is what drives us as a species, and thus I am proud to be one.

I honestly like the single player of them, MW1 and 2 being the better ones. And the multiplayer? well its good for a short while but then quickly sucks.

Yes I like the game, but not most of the people who play it. What I mean is the stereotypical foul-mouthed CoD gamers that leak puberty through their headsets. The characters in the campaign are also too boring and typical. At least the ones past CoD4 are. I know I shouldn't rely too much on a CoD game nowadays to have an enthralling story when it is mostly multiplayer dependent, but I believe that's what made CoD4 better.(in my opinion. :p)

There are better shooters out there (Killzone, Battlefield), but yeah, I do like playing Call of Duty.

Except for MW2. That game can go die in a fire.

~snips~ It's not a bad game. (...) It's just overpriced and overrated.(...)
Agreed.

I fell for the black ops hype. never again.

I've played it/beat story mode. Zombie mode (to me) got really old really fast even with the new maps. Multiplayer, meh. I've had more fun playing other fps' online.

I like parts of it.

Zombies is a lot of fun, and the multiplayer can be fun, but only when playing with friends. Truthfully though, the cod games are some of the most frustrating I've ever played because people play them like complete and total assholes trying to find and use every little exploit possible. This isn't really the fault of the games, but the community is TERRIBLE.

It's a cheap pleasure. I get some great fun out of it, but it's ultimately pretty shallow.
That's really all there is to it. Fun for a little bit but don't look for depth.
My favorite part of all the Call of Duty games ever has to be Nazi Zombies; a minigame. Something definitely got screwed up somewhere.

I like some of the games. I don't like what the series has become.

Call of Duty 1 was good, and its expansion pack, United Offensive, added a whole load of depth to the multiplayer. The second game was okay, but it was just more of the same with a coat of paint and they totally ignored all of the additions UO made to the multiplayer. Also, they released it without any anti-cheat support at all, and it was months before they patched it in...

Number three was quite inconsequential and Call of Duty 4 (or "MW1") had some nice ideas, but everything that came after was just a tired rehash. World at War? Its single player may as well just be called Call of Duty: Darker and Edgier and its multiplayer is essentially Call of Duty 4 in a time warp to the 1940s. And as for Modern Warfare 2? Call of Duty: Michael Bay Edition.

I believe Call of Duty 4 was a genuinely good game, but its success led its masters to turn the series into a full-on cash cow and it's utterly depressing to see how many people have been taken in by the hype to make such average games some of the best selling ever.

Also, United Offensive was the high point of the series' multiplayer. Tanks, jeeps, deployable light machine guns, artillery, binoculars, satchel charges, smoke grenades, a flamethrower, combined arms warfare on large maps in all sorts of different game modes... Every Call of Duty since has felt so narrow in scope in comparison.

I think that, when you get down to it, the gameplay flows very well, and is one of the best designed shooter series I've seen. Some of their entries I'm not so fond of (Black Ops is my top example), but some have really good campaigns as well as good multiplayer(MW1).
So yes, I do like the series.

personally I find the CoD games a bore as they seem to be repeating the game just changing the campaign guns and kill streaks I have played from 4 up to 7 and have disliked them all I have a friend on here who feels the same way I will not say his name as it is not important however I do find some things in the games to be fun for example the zombies mode as I love games with zombies involved

Modern Warfare is one of my favourite games.
Speaking of which, that thread about our 5 top games a week or 2 ago.... when do we see that list?

Yeah, I like the series. Being one of the few around here that knows the series didn't start at CoD4, and having played them all, I can safely say that I genuinely enjoyed the entire series.

I just wish CoD1 was still alive. SnD on Harbor sounds fantastic right now, even though I've played Harbor so much that I can run the map with my eyes closed.

Having finished the campaign on hardest difficulty and 100% the achievements all I play is multiplayer and I love to hate it lol. Sometimes can have good games other times everyone just uses me as target practice :-(. Few tweaks in multiplayer, balance it out a little and job done :)
