CoD 4 was very good, but I want atleast some improvements on it. Once they'll use a new engine I might try it again, but I'll not buy the same game that much.

Call of Duty 4 was an absolutely fantastic game that I hold up as one of the greatest examples of games as an art form, but all its sequels just seem like a load of samey, ridiculous bullshit to me. Also, while it may not technically be Call of Duty's fault, it's still really aggravating to see so many games blatantly copying CoD mechanics like regen health and two-weapon limits when they're obviously inappropriate in that particular game. So I suppose you could say I have kind of a love/hate relationship with the franchise.

huh, that's weird. judging by all the whining i always see whenever CoD is mentioned around here, i thought escapist was overwhelmingly anti-CoD. but i guess the fans just keep quiet and the haters complain, cuz apparently we have STATISTICS. and statistics never lie (they probably arent in this case)

personally, fan. not my favorite FPS series, but up there.

Nope. It is both too realistic and not realistic enough. It starts with the realism, having super low health. This means that it takes little skill to kill an enemy. You only have to be the first to see them to win. Next is iron-sight aiming. If you don't hold down the "aim" button, you wouldn't be able to hit an elephant. You may like it, but it pisses me off.

Then (and I know I'm being a bit nit-picky here) it does several things to break the realism it just established. How do you have a third person viewpoint when diving an RC-XD? Why does your character stand there like a moron if you get to be a chopper gunner? How does an average soldier fully recover from a bullet wound in a matter of seconds, if we already know that it takes two bullets to kill him? Why does a tomahawk in the foot cause instant death? I know some of these problems can't be avoided, but it still bothers me.

"revolutionized" -meaning that in CoD4 the "sprint" button was introduced, even Halo didn't have sprint. This doesn't seem like such of a big deal until you start thinking about the mechanic.

It creates a certain pacing to the multiplayer because if you sprint, you wont have your gun ready to fire. And of course the tactical advantage of advancing from cover to cover quickly.

And as far as I'm concerned EVERY modern FPS uses this mechanic or at least tries to copy it. Just look how even the Mighty Halo is Call of duty's ***** right now. Reach seems more like a CoD-game with out dated Halo elements in it.
Wait, what? Reach is a CoD clone just because it has a sprint function?

Past World At War, not really. Except Zombies in Black Ops. That's fun to play with my friend. Also, playing multiplayer in the hardcore mode, very fun, and intense. I like that, and only that about the multiplayer.

I liked Call of Duty 4, but after that... no. Every release since then has been pretty much the same game copied and pasted into a different setting, with a price tag higher than any other game on the shelf.

The single-player campaigns are all flash and no substance. Five hours of "Follow NPC to point A. Watch cutscene. Follow NPC to point B. Press X to trigger cutscene. Follow NPC to point C. Kill enemies. Follow NPC to point D. Watch cutscene. End level. Rinse and repeat". There's no challenge in it at all. It's just following NPCs through a linear path, triggering cutscenes and killing waves of enemies from behind cover. Boring as all hell.

I liked CoD4, but since then the series has gone to hell in my opinion.

So... no, I don't like CoD.

So a game with jetpacks, lasers, gravity hammers, space combat, low gravity areas, swords, no iron sights, shields, vehicles, and a forge is more like a CoD game than a Halo game because of sprint? Show me a CoD game with all that stuff, and I'll concede ignorance. Secondly, a sprint button is not an almighty game-changer. It let's you get from point A to point B faster.
I may have been too harsh, because it is true that Bungie managed to keep much originality with Reach. And I remembered that "sprint" is an option that you can choose from different loadouts. A guy with "armor lock" doesn't have the option of running at all.

And the fact that Reach is one of the few modern FPS-games that doesn't use iron sights is admirable.

You have a fair point, you win. But I still think that sprint IS an almighty game changer.

The fans are too busy playing the actual game.

And remember that we're talking about the best selling game franchise in the world, so the haters are a huge minority. But they make up for it by being really loud.

I rather enjoy it. Its nice for friends to get together and run precision strikes against 12 year olds and veterans alike.

I remember having lots of fun playing Call of Duty 2, I think, on the pc, ages ago... But now it seems like it's all about multiplayer and I just don't care about multiplayer in any game. So... Used to like it.

I liked the first two. On the PC. Back in the day. When I was a wipper snapper.

Modern COD and COD 3 can die in ditch. Covered in petrol. On fire, for my liking.
