I find it really strange when people do that, to be honest. The thought would never occur to me. But I do know some people who call their parents by their first name and almost never by their "titles" and they don't seem to think it's weird. In fact, the parents raised them that way.

I don't really do that ever, except there was the classic "Mum, mum, MUM! Maaaaa-um, momomomomomomom...Ruth?" "Yes, what?"

Nah, it just feels odd. I only use her name when people ask me what her name is and sometimes I have to pause and think about it for a second.
She must have done something terrible to not deserve your respect. To say your mum gives birth to you, brings you up, feeds you, pays for your things among other things, I'd say she's deserving of respect. Unless she's a crap mother, then that's understandable.
I just call my dad "that knobhead" so there's that. Haven't seen him for ten years though, so there's no point talking about him often.

I don't call my parents by their first names. The names "Mom" and "Dad" are there to establish the relationship I have with them. To me, they're not just someone who lives in the same household.

Only when I can't get their attention for whatever reason.

It's a bit like "Mum, mum, mum! MUM! Heather!" "Hm? Yes Tom?"

I think she's just learned to tune out non-emergency related cries of "mum." I think think that's reasonable.

Well, I call my grandparents by their first name. But my parents are always mama and papa to me.

I answered no, but to be fair I do occasionally call my Dad by his first name. That's only when we're giving each other shit, in that special, funny way that only fathers and sons can do. Or when I need to differentiate between Dad (my Grandfather) and Dad (my Dad) when talking to my Grandma, since she always calls my Grandfather "Dad". To be fair, she often calls me by my uncle's name, and mixes up her kids quite a bit. My Mom, I would never dare call her by her first name directly. I haven't had the best relationship with my Mom, but I would never call her by her first name. Seems like it shows a complete lack or respect for the people who raised you. Except for my Dad, if he gives me shit, I'll give it right back with a smile.

Your parents deserve your respect; as such you should refer to them by their titles of 'mom' and 'dad' or whatever variation you prefer.

That said - when my father cheated on my mother several times, I called him by his first name for years. When I forgave him and called him 'dad' for the first time since, he cried.

Mother of God, your spelling, it's...it's atrocious.

On topic, my Mother would beat the sh*t out of me if I called her by her first name.

I started calling my mother by her first name once I got tired of her accidentally calling be by my father's name, we both are annoyed by this kind of "name-calling". As for my father, I've been calling him "Old man" (in my language it doesn't sound THAT bad), for a long time now, he has more important things to care about.

But what do you guys think about calling your parents by there first name.

I personally say it because i don't see my mother as a mother figure. Nor do i respect her enough to call her 'mum'.
I do the same, for the same reasons that you, and my mother gets upset, my father doesnt.

I only do it when I'm trying to get their attention and they aren't listening to what I'm saying.

No, because they don't like me do it, but i hope that in future generations it will change. If you think about it, it's a retarded idea, to force your children to call you only by your function, not your name.

Always call my Mam, "Mam". I've occasionally called my Dad by his real name, mainly when pissed off or jokey with him.
Now that I'm a parent, I'd hate the thought of my Girl calling me by my name.

Yeah if I called either of my parents by their first name I would get smacked so hard I would travel through time.

And it doesn't matter how old I or they get that's what will happen.

I don't use their first names, my brother calls my dad by his first name to annoy him and I find it weird when I hear my cousin calling her mother Ros, but I just call them Mum and Dad.

If I'm talking about my parents to someone other than my brother or sister, I refer to them as my mum or my dad, I hate it when people are talking about their parents and just say mum or dad, they're not my parents, they're yours, so say they're your mum or your dad.

I refer to my mother as "mom" (well, "mamma", actually, since I'm Swedish) and my father as "that douche I like to pretend I'm not related to".

It's easier that way. *shrug*
